I don't know him very well. But just looking at the two bodies Contreras looks more like more built or muscular than Lopez. So it could be less of a climber and more the Henao type. Lopez looks more like the pure climber type. Just saying. Could be wrong.

Contreras also did some good tt's in the past I believe.

I think Lopez is the more talented of the two or to put it more precisely; I think he will be the better cyclist in the future. Maybe Contreras has as much pure physical talent as Lopez, I dont know, but he seems rather inconsistent so far. I also seem to recall that Etixx signed more or less because of his test results and not because of his results in his career so far.

Looking at Contreras, he doesn't seem super skinny so he might have some 'free' space for development if he can shed a few pounds of fat. No question that Lopez is the better rider at the moment though

Both Lopez and Contreras don't really represent the standard of a pure climber. The first one has the build of a sprinter, while the latter looks like Ullrich in his christmas period.

But especially the first one can climb tremendously. MA will be able to fight for wins in GT's in a couple of years. RC on the other hand will be more a rider for smaller stage races, not for a Tour. He was indeed a good TT'er in his u23 days.

A question for guys who know Colombian cycling better: How good Contreras is? Is he on par with Lopez when it comes to potential?
Contreras is very talented. He doesn't have as much potential as Superman Lopez does, but he'll be able to win his races in the future. Contreras is more of an allround type, rather than a climber. He never challenged the likes of Lopez and Brayan Ramirez in the Colombian U23 races, but I think he can do very well on the European mountains. I think one week races like Paris-Nice, Tour de Romandie, etc, as well as smaller classic races, are a good fit for him.

By the way, for people who compare Contreras to Bananito Betancur when it comes to weight:

Germán Tivani wins, Dani Diaz is 2nd, he attacked a few times on the last few km, but the better sprinter Tivani was able to close the gap.
