Actually, he looks stupid, given he lost time.

Tour de Suisse is not Landas goal.

A lot of the captains are holding back some days, and going beyond their limits others, to work their shape and test themselves.... and the other riders.

It's all preparation for the tour.

The only performances you can truly read something into IMO, are the people that get blown out the back early on climbs..... and those that appear great, like Porte.

Though the latter type, being in great shape already now, 6 weeks before fighting for the tour up Col de Portet, are going to have a fine line to walk (or ride, as it were), to not run out of steam by then..... time will tell.

Why do you assume Porte is already in great/TDF shape? Because he was good in a laughable mountain stage, where the bunch was still 20 riders. Or am i mising something.

Just based on how he looks and how hard BMC rides the race (remember, it's the home race).

We'll see Sunday :)

I guess we're not going to see anything from the Klausenpass tomorrow?
Doubt it. But I hope Mas or Quintana or Kelderman or someone else just goes early for the training miles tommorow and blows the race open. If this is properly raced then there could be no GC action bar for a five minute skirmish on friday (unless you count time trials as "GC action").
Hope for Mas and Quintana then.

Kelderman is not going to do anything except count on his TT or maybe his last 500m (he is pretty punchy in a sprint)
Yeah, fair point, Kelderman was probably a bad inclusion on that list. He might be too close and have too good of a TT to go for broke so early. Maybe Spilak.

Please, do that.
I think i will. Chris' and Nygaard's tactical brilliance is too much for me, I get overwhelmed!
Nice, I will look forward to not having to read through any more pages of whining from your side, that belongs in the commentator thread :)

As for the stage today, it's not because Furka and Klausenpass aren't tough climbs. They are. There's just way too much flat road to cover after the last descend.

BMC & LRP must wonder about support - after GvA was done, TJ did 30 seconds and that was it! Kaboom ...

A big break, Monfort is virtual leader and QS has two machines up the road. Could be interesting if Mas intends to go.

I doubt that TJVG understands what being a Domestique entails, have never seen him perform in that role to any extent that could be called useful. GVA on the other hand is not renowned for when the road points upward to any great extent, so him dropping off is understandable.

GVA worked a lot, he took a big shift. Of course, because we are talking about Van Avermaet, one of the most respected riders of the peloton.

Lets wait with the TJ-bash. Its very possible his level simply isn't higher.

Right now I'd rather bash all the riders who should be trying something but are chilling in the peloton instead.
