Because mass starts are better and there are already two time trials??
Ok, I guess this is a real marathon stage, so should be fine, but it‘s kinda stupid that they can‘t go through Italy and over the Simplon because the Swiss Army has to secure all the stages.

It's even dumber because they had no problem going over the Simplon in 2017.

Bernal for the win, then? We've seen from his Giro win that he doesn't mind the wet conditions.

Or Pidcock, even, he'd gain so much time on the descents.

I think Yates is the favorite, Bernal his rival and Lenny and Del Toro dark horses.

Three pages in and no mention at all for Mattias Skjelmose, last year's winner who has shown great form this year and is on an upwards trajectory?

All righty then...

If only @Broccolidwarf was here. Toby will have to do.

Sorry dude, that guy left the forum many years ago and hasn't returned since. You must have him confused with someone else :)

It will also be interesting to see Soeren Kragh getting ready for the Tour :)

And in the bunch sprints Michael Moerkoev will have some nice battles with Tobias Lund

Johan Price-Pejtersen should win the two TT's and Wandahl and Foldager will likely each win a breakaway stage :)

He wasn't very good in the Ardennes though, and both in PN and Itzulia he lost positions on the final day. I doubt he's winning this, but I thought the same thing last year.

Skjelmose kinda only won last year, because Ayuso had an off-day. Evenepoel was out of shape as well.

Don't think this happens with Bernal. Even if both Mas & Carapaz don't show up as opponents for the gold jersey!

Ayuso and Gall were also allowed to take back a minute due to the tactical racing behind them on those stages.

There's only one question, will Gall pull a 1996 Lutte or a 1996 Bjarne here?

since Skjelmose is not doing TDF it would be a little weird if he's in super shape here

Came back from altitude, right now he's at home and tapering his training volume, so he's supposed to ride TdS, then another short altitude block before the Tour.
there's another interview with Gall in Austrian media today. Isola 2000 is where he'll head for after the Tour de Suisse

He mentioned that he is struggling with weight, though. Not the Ullrich way, but he would prefer to gain weight before the Tour.

Maybe Remco can have some weight transferred to Gall.

So far he has been lowballing his chances at the Tour, saying that repeating last year's results would already be a big win. AG2R are also a bit thin when it comes to good climbers for the Tour team.

He could still go for the polkadots jersey instead if he's 1st over Tourmalet & Bonette!

Brutal stage race. If someone wants to peak for the Tour, they shouldn't fight for the win here
