I've been spoiled rotten by Devil's Elbow's most excellent Giro write-ups, all I had to do was just copy and paste! So here goes my feeble attempt and I'll just keep it short and sweet...

Finally a proper race, and I hear a rumour on the wires that Geraint Thomas is no longer a complete Heffalump. El Perro is also here. Watch out.

Maybe Quintana can find inspiration from his '14 monte grappa MTT win and do something special on stage 8, a stage which is a must see imo.

Could be a very open race, unless UAE goes crazy again.

Looking at the startlist for UAE, he's got to be the undisputed team leader. Lets see how the team works for him, or if it's going the be the usual UAE team *** everytime Pogacar is not in the race.

In fairness, the organisers forgot to include a single proper climb.

Froome returns to major stage racing wearing #1 on his team.

once upon a time, Froome was about to get dropped by Team Sky and seemingly out of nowhere rose to finish 2nd (later amended to 1st) in the Vuelta.

Now about to get dropped by Israel without a contract for next year, can history repeat itself?

It's UAE.
When Pogacar is there, everyone knows what their job is and they have no problem executing it.
When Pogacar is not there, they are always in a state of apparent internal disarray and they won't commit to working for a leader until it becomes crazy not to. And sometimes not even then (Mcnulty in the Giro is a good one).

I'm very curious to see how UAE plays this. Will they work for Almeida like they do with Pogacar or will they have guys stage hunting and going for jerseys?
I really don't know. Lets see.

My biggest complaint about the route is the lack of a flat TT. Otherwise I think its alright, stage 5 is really hard and the MTT as well.

Today already has the potential to be a GC day, I think Almeida could win his first of several stages on a reduced group sprint.

The startlist is disappointing. It always is in Switzerland, but this year it seems like many teams are sending their D team.

Thomas, Fuglsang and Spilak got a bit of a gap over the top, but it came back together to a group of ~10, where Durasek rolled away late on to win solo. A 2nd group with Sagan finished 15s behind:

Kristijan Äurasek is the winner of Tour de Suisse 2015 Stage 2, before Daniel Moreno and Julián David Arredondo. Tom Dumoulin was leader in GC.

Could be more or less the same kind of race today - although with no real favorite, a weak enough break also may have a shot.

Stage only 129.4 Ks, the exact same length as the women's stage...

I feel like if they wanted both races to have equal length, there was a better way to go about that...
