CVV doesn't seem to have bounced back from his Giro injury quite as well as he might have hoped. Disappointing from Zabriskie, too.

Some interesting names there, and obviously....

Sagan is the find of the season, what a prospect he is.
Fuglsang at 10 deserves a mention as well as Andy Schleck's rather decent effort at 27 (ish).

Actually I reckoned it was one for the "sprinter-who-can-climb-100m's" category like Boonen, but what do I know?

Sagan for the win? I'll probably get shot down in flames, but stranger things have happened?

Little question at what time and in between what racers did Armstrong start, because cyclingnews.com for example gives the excuse of rain during his ride, but didn't he ride at about the same time as Sagan and Martin and Kreuziger?

158 18:57 SPILAK Simon LAM 81st
159 18:58 GUTIERREZ PALACIOS José Ivan GCE 39th

I cant imagine that Lofkvist and Castroviejo had conditions that different to lance

Lance Armstrong (RadioShack) was one of the riders who raced late in the afternoon and faced wet conditions for the final part of the time trial in the centre of Lugano. Armstrong avoided taking any risks, finishing 44th with a time that was 29 seconds slower than Cancellara's pace.

I guess the bit to read is "avoided taking any risks" naff all to do with the rain, ,but it is a bit of a nancy line by CN and theres no real reason to even mention lance in the article.

Cyclingnews always come up with excuses for Armstrong.

Fact is, the other top riders rode under same circumstances. So

That was mainly the reason why I asked, which riders would have certainly rode under the same circumstances.

Thank you TSF

I wouldnt say that Lofkvist or Castroviejo were particularly renowned as prologue speciallists.. Thomas can ride a decent top ten tt, Lance should have been top ten.

Its cn glossing over his failings.. they need the adverttising revenue.

Watching this on Versus right now and Paul just said (not kidding here), "Looks like maybe he's holding something back for the descent". He said that.

To be fair, he said that after commenting that losing 10 secs to Roche at the halfway point didn't look good for Armstrong's prep. I think his brain kicked in and he realized what he was getting paid to do and came up with the "holding back for the descent" tactic.

I'm going to have to use that one on my next club ride. I'm going to lose some time on the climb so I have more left for the descent. That's going to work out for me.

He has two swords of Damocles hanging over his head, the French infusion investigation and the U.S. federal investigation. He would have to be a psychopath for his training not to be affected. Plus, five hour lunches with Bono are not known to improve time trialing ability.

He was even talking about him "throwing down the gauntlet" just seconds before he crossed the time check, where he lost +/-12s (?).

Nice starting lane, where the audience gets really close to the riders.

i think hes just going to vanish mid tour, and sometime in august a goat herder is going to find him sat by the side of the road on the tourmalet, head in hands, weeping.

Could be the biggest public celebrity breakdown since Vanessa Feltz on big brother

I just finished watching LA's ride on Versus, which spent a lot of camera time on the old boy. The road didn't even look wet until the very end. Not sure where the rain line was, but the road looked dry for most of the route. When the camera cut LA at 500m to go, there was standing water on the road and he coasted carefully around the last major turn. But the end of the course was the only part that showed any water.

LA looked terrible on the climb - really unsteady, jerky, not smooth at all. He kept changing gears constantly as if he couldn't find a comfortable one.

By the way, no fat on him - he's looking very skinny these days, but not strong.

I think many of the big names rode under similar circumstances. From the broadcast, it looked like the problem was standing water at the end, not a ongoing deluge.

On another note, the Versus coverage was extremely biased again. We can see Lance losing time, Paul. You can say he made up time on the descent all you want, but dude clocked in at 28th spot on the summit, and when he finished he was sitting in 36th spot. That is not making up time on the descent.

On Versus, Paul also told some story about saying to Lance that he was about to ride his last Tour de France, and LA replied, "Am I?" Paul seemed to be using this story to imply that the oldster wasn't retiring any time soon and would be around for a few more years. However, a cynical interpretation is that LA is unsure he's even going to be able to ride this year's Tour.

To be honest most just want him to go away. They don't say it but we all want to move on. He reminds me of the guy the guy who gets sacked from his job but keeps turning up everyday and sitting in his office.

and in other news the dream is still alive:

Following @andykloedi in his prologue. He's gonna be flying!!
___

Bad luck for @andykloedi. Started to rain just before his prologue. Great uphill (best time), no risks downhill. #bummer!!

I said this before during th tour de Lyxembourg, he looks very frail, as if he can snap at any moment, both physically and mentally

How about we stop talking about the guy who finished 44th and start talking, I don't know, about Urán.

This, sort of. The top four looks awesome for this race:

1 Fabian Cancellara (Swi) Team Saxo Bank 0:10:21
2 Roman Kreuziger (Cze) Liquigas-Doimo 0:00:01
3 Tony Martin (Ger) Team HTC - Columbia 0:00:03
4 Peter Sagan (Svk) Liquigas-Doimo

I gotta tip Kreuziger, but Martin had a strong TdS last year, and Sagan will certainly animate things. I would say almost anyone in the top 20 today can take this race. Would love to see Kirchen or Rodriguez pull it off. Or maybe Devolder will redeem his lackluster spring.
