so van Poppel gave this opportunity to his team mate, Pithie. Fine, no problem. Stage 1, however better go to plan.
How could Van Poppel "give the opportunity" to Pithie, or anyone? It was a 3.6 km prologue; they probably just both went as fast as they could, with Pithie being faster.
BTW, this is very weirdly phrased (from PCS):
Story of the day
In only the second prologue in Tour Down Under history, Michael Gogl started first but briefly held the hot seat. Ethan Vernon and Samuel Watson ultimately claimed first and second. Big names like Mikkel Bjerg and Jay Vine failed to match their times.
"But briefly held the hot seat." Yeah... of course... probably because he started first. I think they might might be missing an "only" in that sentence...
And... why do they put Vernon and Watson in the opposite order of how they finished?
Also, what was Bjerg's excuse for only finishing 67th? It can't be because of any descent towards the finish.
Besides; his beautiful wife isn't at home. He brought her with him to Australia!
Well... technically, Trek brought her...
