watching the replay from above, swift does a good job to make space for the wombat, and i think the latter would have won if he had then opened his sprint to his right where there was space

Watched a recap. The fastest riders weren't able to properly ride their sprint, but that's the fun about sprinting anyway. Good job by Andresen. Van Poppel was perfectly positioned and couldn't deliver. Also I barely recognise the Bora jerseys from above. It's okay from the front.
Van Poppel's strengths are his skill and reaction time, which is why he was able to catch the Ineos train and then, at the last moment, switch to the Decathlon train; he's very much like Sagan in that sense. This, combined with his consistency, makes him ideal for achieving top-five finishes in almost every sprint and some podiums, but to win he needs specific conditions, such as a slightly uphill finish, a sligthly selective sprint, a bend before it or a "magic day" like in the Nationals, normally he doesn´t have the top end speed vs tier 1 or tier 2 sprinters.
Welsford is almost the opposite. He needs (besides being in good form, which doesn't happen often) a red carpet where he's left 200 meters from the finish line with nothing to think about but going all out, because when it comes to finding gaps on his own and making the right decisions, he's incredibly frustrating.

Gudmestad seemed to look under the arm and give Van Poppel reason to think twice after his lead out was done. They should credit him with joint 1st.

God forbid a top rider treat this winter training race the way it's supposed to be treated. He was probably too busy trying to take selfies with koalas. Proper stuff.

Was working so only saw the end. Standard sprint finish, nice work by Decathlon. Andreson is a nice sprinter.
Anderson got the best lead out. Welsford slightly quicker than Brennan. Tomorrow is the big GC day. There will be gaps,

Danish TV2's preview of the race said there will be a significant headwind on the final climb and on the final run-in tomorrow. Is that still the case? If so, I think there might be more separation to be had on Willunga, where according to that preview there will be tailwind. But forecast could have changed, of course.

Doesn't look too bad. Mostly crosswind except that stretch just after the climb. But that stretch is still a bit unfortunate. Would have been the place to extend any separation gained on the steep part of the climb.
If that wind direction stays the same until the Willunga stage, that means a direct tailwind on that climb though. So that's good news.

What finish did you watch? Welsford didn't really get to open his sprint at all but that aside Brennan was definitely moving quicker.

Mayrhofer has several broken bones, a.o the collarbone, from a crash during the stage.

The same finish I watched. Take a look at the photo finish, despite Welsford being forced to power down, he still manages a very close third, whereas Brennan with a clear path should've been further in front if his speed was superior.
