Just tuned in and there's a break of three riders, and being it's hot one of the riders picked up some ice from his team car and shared it with the another rider in the break. I thought that was nice. :)

75km to go and I'm hoping the break will make it...

Commentator said it's 32C, and you can see bottles and icebags flying everywhere. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 42C (), will be interesting to see who does well in extreme heat! (I realize they're professionals, but there comes a time when performing in extreme heat just becomes stupid and unsafe.)

Hard for riders coming from the European winter to acclimatize to these kind of temperatures. Lucky these conditions are occurring at the end of the week and not stage 1. Even in Tenerife this week its below 20C.

At least Paleni got the well-earned combat award and he's giving a terrific interview just now. I've become a fan!

Also, there was a crash they didn't show earlier and Vine was one of the riders to go down. (Said the commentator.) Not much more news about that right now.

EDIT: because the crash happened within the last km everyone will get the same time, and commentator was wrong about Vine.

Per PCS these riders were involved in a crash:

I was hoping Urianstad could hang on but he got dropped from the break. So now there's only two French guys up front with 16km to go...
A small public service announcement, which Jez Cox also should read:

Contrary to Danish names, Norwegian names have the 'main' surname last. Back in the day, people used to just get the dad's surname. When receiving both parents' surnames started getting more popular a few decades ago, the norm was mom's name in the middle and dad's name last. Usually people use both, but if you want to shorten it, it's common to use the last one, as a bit of a relic from the original naming custom. So the rider is either Martin Urianstad Bugge, or just Martin Bugge. Martin Urianstad sounds weird to a Norwegian.

As a second example, Edvald Boasson Hagen is another where saying just Boasson would sound very weird. He is either referred to using both names, or just Hagen.

Of course nowadays you sometimes even see people with quadruple surnames, when both parents insist on having both their names used. We're getting a bit too liberal with the naming customs for my taste. But most of those cases are maybe not old enough to be pro bike riders yet.

Thank you for the clarification, much appreciated!

When the awards were being given out the announcer said Bugge and not Urianstad. So I was like, d'oh!, I messed Bugge's name up in my post!

Anyhoo, I really appreciate name corrections because I get so confuuuuused!

Well, there's nothing to be confused about regarding Danish names. It's very simple; it varies.

Here are a few examples using riders in this race:

For example, we have 'Andreas Lorentz Kron', who is referred to as just 'Kron'.
Then we have 'Tobias Lund Andresen', who is referred to as just 'Lund'.
There's also 'Anthon Charmig', who is referred to as just 'Charmig', because he only has those two names.
Finally there's 'Mikkel Norsgaard Bjerg', who is referred to as just 'Bjerg'. (Also, he's only had the name 'Norsgaard' since 2021.)

Brennan with a very lacklustre performance. He was swamped a bit but he also did not have the speed at all.
