Can we just call it the orange jersey so I don't have to listen to *** commentators saying ochre like it's a vegetable.

I agree. No idea WTF they were thinking. It's orange.

it is geo restricted. its just about accesible if you can find a really fast proxy, but they block them pretty quickly.

oh, team leopard have asked to be called team lay-o-pard.. sorry.. Lay-O-Pard-TREK.. conceited ****s. i like them less every day.

Trek sent out of press release where they said they wanted the name to be written in all caps without a hyphen and without the word team. Because of this I will forever refer to them as team-leopard-trek. Or perhaps I should drop the trek as well...

On another note, I really don't see why people give out about the TDU being a sprinter's race. The sprinters have to have their day sometime, and early in the season is a perfect time to let them at it. It's not as if any halfway decent stage racer is going to whip himself into shape in January.

I agree their are so many major races in cycling that are suited for stage racers and classic riders which is a good thing imo. Its not like this is PR or the TDF, legends arn't going to be made by winning the TDU so it really isn't that big of an issue to have a couple of sprinter friendly stage races such as the TDU.

Well, prestige wise it doesn't matter that TDU is a sprinters race. The problem is that it's impact on rankings is too high considering the ease with which the points are gained and with the importance that points plays for all teams nowadays it is unfortunate imo.

You really don't get that many points for a stage in a ProTour stage race. You get a fair few points for the overall victory, but there should be at least a couple of PT stage races where a sprinter is in with a shot of the GC.

I still can't get that bleeping stream to work by the way. Anybody who can talk me in baby steps through the process of getting it working will earn a slightly embarrassing, fawning, loyalty. I'll post admiring agreement-filled tripe after everything they say.

First pass of Mortirolo starts at 88km?

Btw does anyone think they should run the Willunga hill loop backwards some years? I'm not sure if it's quite as steep, but the finish in the town would come just after the descent (turn right out of the corner and not more than a k to go?). The descent might be a little bit more technical too?

Hmm. Torn about this.

Sprinters compete for every flat to lightly hilled stage in every stage race--as well as any one day race that can brought to a sprint finish. If they want to win the overall at tours and classics, they should try riding for tours and classics. This would involve expanding their game to include more than just 200 km of tempo and 200 m of explosion. That's why stage races feature different profiles and things like time trials, and why classics riders are a different breed than pure sprinters. These two types of races are more about being able to ride in multiple ways, rather than specializing as a sprinter, climber, or tt-er. (Though climbers do seem to dominate GTs lately, but that's kind of the only way you can make races that are ultimately won by individuals these days, it seems.)

If riders are built more for sprints (or just more comfortable with that type of race), and fancy their chances there, then they can try to win sprints.

I really don't see the problem.

And actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I'm always a bit disappointed when new, great talent becomes a sprint win or 5km-to-go move specialist. I want more well-rounded cyclists, not more specialists. Which I guess makes me biased.

You are fighting against the tide there though. The story of the last 25 years in cycling is one of greater and greater specialisation. That doesn't see likely to change in the near future.

Don't rule out Luke Roberts today, either. This seems to be the only stage he puts everything on the line for, like last year. I also predict he's hungry this year, after the Pegasus **** fell through.

Today he will be buoyed by the talk of the possibility of another chance at Saxo if Contador is suspended. He'll be on a slight high with that news AND wanting to prove a point that he's worthy of a contract.

Plus he likes that slight uphill finish. Won it last year, knows what it takes.

Roberts

It's a big novelty watching cycling on the TV in the arvo, but my gosh it has been a bit dull so far.
