Do you think the highlights package of a midweek stage at 1730 on SBS really appealed to the mainstream and provided great exposure? Everyone is busy, or watching 'deal or no deal' or whatever they show at that time on the commercial stations. 2330 on Nine provides greater mainstream exposure than 1730 on SBS. Although it is disappointing for the many cycling fans who will not be able to watch the highlights at night or even the morning after, but they are only highlights, it's hardly worth avoiding the result waiting for a poorly edited highlights package 5 hours later.

The two days live will be covered for the same length as previous years. Also, Nine are actually broadcasting it live across the country, which SBS had failed to do. Again, there will also be far better mainstream exposure on a saturday morning/afternoon on Nine than they ever would have received on SBS.

Its amusing people complain that there's a crit in the TDU then complain now its not being shown :D
I dont care about the "Classic" we get two live stages which is the same as last year except this time when I hear the "L" I won't feel like throwing things at the TV. Like I wanted to all the time when watching the Nats.

I could not think of a worse broadcaster to have the TV rights than channel 9. there is a good reason why Channel 9 has been losing the ratings to channel 7. A lot of it is tied up with what they program and when (endless repeats of 2 1/2/ men ....)
I know a lot of SBS viewers are annoyed by Antony Tan but they are unlikely to cut away as the peloton comes into the final straight. Channel 9 has cut away from wickets in cricket to the news or to ads. Dumb dumb dumb decision by Mike Turtur. And there is no guarantee that channel 9 will show it Australia wide anyway as Southern Cross does not always show the same shows as Channel 9

Oh sure, would rather it on SBS than Channel Nine. But so far, based on what they've said they're going to put out, its not actually any worse than SBS, except maybe a minute extra on their ads? Their host will likely be stupider than Tomalaris with a bit more commercial "charisma" yet they should also get some former-pro in who knows cycling as the expert.

They show the Cronulla Crits and IIRC it's Tim Gilbert. It was cringeworthy when Cadel won the Tour when everybody on the Today show and suddenly acted like they were cycling fans which is a load of **** as they couldn't name a Tour winner other than Lance Armstrong or Cadel Evans.

Just had a look at my TV guide and WIN (my version of Southern Cross) has the TDU live at those times so should be no reason why you wouldn't have.

@faketomalaris "Rumour has it that #TDU will be moved to October next year in Sydney as part of the Channel 9 Grand Final half time entertainment"

Some of you might remember the disaster that was the Channel 9 coverage of the last Winter Olympics?

I wrote a letter to them afterwards, begging them to reconsider things before this year's Summer Olympics.

Itsa glorified Great Victorian Bike Ride, so lame that its kinda embarassing. They try to take it to the crowds but the population is so small that it limits the possibilities. It could be turned into a fantastic race if they took it where the people aint like all the other tours. The people would travel, we are used to it you know.

According to Alex Hinds (cyclingnews journo) Channel 9 have already asked some dopey questions to the riders at the pre race press conference.

Don't know if this has been said before. But 9 seems to have blessed us with great coverage, we are luckey enough to be able to catch 1 hour highlights of each state starting at around 11:30 pm to 12:30 am!

The fact they got the coverage is a absolute joke! Thank god im going down to the race so i can watch it in person

Seen that the highlights are available for 7ish online each day though which is an improvement. Especially for those of us that have to fight their family for viewing time.

I don't think having to watch the race highlights online is no way near good enough

For me anyway, what they play the video stream through is tiny and cannot be made bigger even by zooming or maximizing, watching online may be good sometimes but not when the screen is barely 8cm in diameter.

TV Coverage of TDU

What is wrong with channel Nine. Highlights a 11pm!
Don't they know most cyclists get up early to train.
Atleast SBS had a 1/2hr highlight show before the news at 6pm.
Channel Nine Wake Up or get lost and leave it to the experts

Coverage

In the US, there is 30 minute highlights on NBCS/Versus.

Can someone help? On the internet there is a channel that broadcasts all major cycling events as live streaming in English, German, Spanish, and maybe Italian.

I lost my bookmarks and can't remember it or find it. Can someone help?

Channel 9 should be flogged.

What Channel 9 has done to the TDU by playing their coverage at 10.30 pm has set that race back 10 years.

Its nothing short of a disgrace, a spoiler, and simply un-Australian. Its dampened down the media coverage because hardly anyone is talking about it because they are not watching it.

Is it down to the greed of the owners of the TDU, selling out for the highest price?
