I was quite enjoying watching Simon Gerrans work himself over in the break.

It's only February, Gilbert didn't look great in February in 2010 and 2011 either. He said before the race he won't waste any energy. If he can win without wasting energy he'd try, but he's not going to break a sweat here.

If I understand correctly he'll have trouble breaking his contract with Endura, in which case I can see him winning a lot of 2.1 stage races. A shame they didn't go Pro Conti this year else he'd be at Paris Nice for sure for starters...

Nah, Endura can't compete with contract offers he will get from bigger teams and they know it. They've just got to enjoy the exposure he can give them with some wins this season (or however many months he stays for) and then wish him the best of luck for taking on Gilbert in 2013

Same here First time I've really got to see JTL in action and was very very impressed. If Endura hold on to him much longer I will be surprised after that and the Med.

If the weather & technology keep foiling those Australian world beaters, he could just have a good season.
