Sky will be handing over a blank cheque to get a good British puncheur. It's probably the team's weakest area.

I would surely like him to go on a pro conti team (at least) to see how it goes. Though I'm not jumping in this JTL train just yet.

A win is a win, very impressive. But looks to me like he's peaking in February and the others aren't.

Quite possibly, yes.

Indeed that's exactly what riders on such teams need to do. They don't get the chance to compete at this level too often.

An opportunity to view today's stage again, on demand, will be here; http://www.cyclingfans.com/tour-du-haut-var

I'm actually surprised not more riders do this. Looking at you Simon Gerrans.

Pechorroman then went to join Quickstep in 2004 with Mercado to be their stage-racing leaders, ah what a special time that was :D

Doh - I got my times mixed up and missed the finale of todays stage.

If anyone spots a recap of the last part of the race somewhere I would really appreciate pointing me towards it.
Sounds like it was a cracking race.

Differential peak or not, the margin and ease of his victories so far suggests there is underlying competancy there too.

Seems to have worked for a lot of them, so I doubt it's underlying competency ;)

We should call it Andy Fenn syndrome I suppose.

EDIT-

Ahh - deleted your suggestion he's not any good. Probably wise, some people around here can get impressively anal about hostages to fortune.

He is clearly a good rider. We won't find out if he is a very good or even a great rider in February.

You're in luck:

@SimoClarke
5th again. Absolutely devoed. Battery went flat with 10km to go, so no 53 and had to ride the last climb at 26% with only the 19 cog...

Endura will surely let someone buy out JTL's contract if the price is right... they're not going to get anything for him if they wait 6 months.

That's got to be the best excuse so far of 2012 :D

It's funny watching El Pistolero argue both sides of the same argument in two different threads at the same time.

The level of superiority over the rest suggests at least "very good". Simon/El Fares/Pinot/Clarke are all good riders and he made them look second rate in 1km

And if they agree to put Endura on the riders shorts for the rest of the year that will give Endura loads of TV coverage etc as well as the money so they win both ways its been done before when Steven Roche left Peougot.

No way Adidas would agree to that!
