Its likely that he wont, but at the same time, the negative attitude which followed was long ago (well Sunday) replaced by a very positive attitude.

He does appear to have had a complete change of heart after those comments. However, the post-stage comments today suggested that people expect him to ride like his normal self again in light of his recent positive comments, but that's being presumptuous. We'll just have to wait and see I guess. My contention is based on a gut feeling, nothing more nothing less.

Gesink himself responded to that: "People expect I'm well and I will finish with the best, but I'm a bit more careful with that. I have taken some real knocks and have no idea where I stand right now"

That's the one, thanks for the quote. I hate it when he gives a subtextual comment like that. It's like a negative comment wrapped in a positive paper. I'm probably being unfair since it is difficult for a rider to gauge where he stands, and he would not want to mislead his supporters.

In an interview with Sporza Radio VDB2 declared he was convinced he was going to make the podium before the fall. He even texted this to his trainer before the fall happened. That's pretty harsh. Would have really liked to see him perform in the mountains...

He was certainly among the contenders, didn't particularly stand out as the top favorite but neither do the others. Might have had the biggest shot at it this year with many rivals crashing out or injured. I'm gutted for him, he did seem to be very good in the first week.

He just has to stop watching Tour du Jour, which apparently they did in the bus before the Super-Besse stage, and which really ****ed him off.

That show (and more specifically Danny Nelissen) will be responsible for Gesink's imminent failure :p

Watching RTL, and Genee in particular, always **** me off regardless of what he says.

hard to say how he will go.
he said he wouldn't attack(unless he felt really good). He also said he is very excited for the mountains, which I take as a positive. It will be difficult, but we shall see how it goes.

I still have my doubts.

He's not openly gonna say Gesink is bad a day before the mountain stage ofcourse...

Doesn't tell me anything. I hope he is good, but we'll see in a few hours if that's the case

Contador does it

Now his press conference(Saxo) even says there is no knee problem at all.

No of course not. But he could have hedged, like Breukink/Team or others are doing 'we'll see; he hasn't fully recovered; maybe; we don't know where he really stands; etc'

It surprised me that he was pretty frank about it.

Wouldn't take his word for it. Only Gesink knows how he feels and he said that he's in the dark about it as well until today. We will know much more after today.

he based this on his more than daily conversations with Gesink. Gesink himself said that he has an excellent relationship with him and has been in touch with him frequently after his crash, to discuss physique, but also psychological issues.

At least all according to 1-2m interviews ;)

Anyway, a couple of km and we will see which Gesink we need to listen to.

That does not give me any more reassurance about Gesink's current state than I already have. He gave his opinion/observation, that hardly makes it true.

I have seen the interview yesterday, however, as I said before it still does not give me more reassurance than I already have. If Delahaye is saying things that Gesink is not projecting himself than something is not right. We will see indeed which one is better at assessing the situation.

Gilbert outclimbing Gesink

But really, this sucks for Gesink. Poor guy. Do the Vuelta instead, your business is done here.
