Vuelta a Leon never lies! (his stage win there was more impressive to me as his whole Tour of Britiain riding)
Meh, his win in Leon was like Cadel Evans on the Mont Ventoux, stay on the wheel the whole time and then sprint at the end. Plus the ToB is a pro race, maybe not a great field climbing-wise but still.

Nah you cant underestimate TOB, plenty of good riders on **** rough, exposed undulating roads with crap weather, so its always tough to go top 10 on GC.

He's a talented rider so congratulations to him, maybe a late developer and destined for a bigger team for certain.

I don't know how the ranking works so let me get this right:

All the 1.1,1.HC,2.HC races don't count for the ranking of the teams?! Things like Tre Vale Varesine, Emillia, Kuurne don't give points?

Nah, that would be too easy, wouldn't it? ;)
For the WorldTour ranking (that nobody gives a sh*t about, I don't even remember who won last year - probably Gilbert though) only WT races count.

For the top-secret UCI ranking to determine which teams will get a WT spot, it's different: Riders get points according to their places in an expanded WT ranking (also including riders from non-WT teams) and expanded Continental rankings (also including riders from WT teams). Additionally, riders get points for victories, also in Continental races. So, for a WT rider, winning a Continental race is worth something, while reaching the podium/top-5/top-10 is only worth something indirectly (via the expanded rankings).

And if you think that sounds complicated: It's supposed to be, we're talking about the UCI here. :rolleyes:

Wow!... They should just use CQ ranking to see the teams that get WT spot. Not even clear rules or anything, that's just a big mess.

CQ is not without it's flaws. Reggio Calabria this weekend is a perfect example - Mr. Viviani scored 78 points for each of his stage wins there...

Ymmm.... nooo

He scored 20 points for the win twice. He got 110 for winning GC though which is pretty ridiculous for a two day race like this, so CQ definitely has few big flaws, but it's better at giving year overview of the teams then UCI WT ranking does.

What Will means is that Viviani won 2 stages of a flat race, and for it he won 156 CQ points.

20 for winning stage 1
20 for winning stage 2
110 for winning the GC
6 for wearing the leader's jersey after stage 1

Total 156. Total number of stages entered: 2
156/2 = 78.

If we're talking CQ, I just noticed the UK have now moved past Australia (obviously failing to capitalise on their inbuilt advantage as much as last year, despite still winning that 'race').

That's the rolling year ranking for countries, so it includes Cavendish's Worlds, Wiggins' Dauphiné and of course Froome's and Wiggins' Vuelta. It means over the last 12 months British riders have outperformed Aussie ones, which is no mean feat.

On the 2012-specific CQ rankings, Australia are first with 1284, ahead of Spain (although Contador's points have not been removed from CQ yet), Belgium and France. Great Britain are 7th with 390, but I suspect that Tiernan-Locke's points for the GC haven't yet been included.

Edit: Movistar have posted some more information.

Clasificación Etapa

* 1º Tiernan-Locke (EDR) 1.54.05
* 2º Navarro (SAX) 0.17
* 3º Garzelli (ASA) m.t.
* 4º Madrazo (MOV) 0.22
* 5º Sorensen (SAX) 0.27

* 4º Ángel Madrazo 0.22
* 10º Andrey Amador 0.27
* 16º Nairo Quintana m.t.
* 21º David López m.t.
* 34º Jesús Herrada 0.47
* 43º Ignatas Konovalovas 1.07
* 57º Fran Ventoso 1.52
* 95º Enrique Sanz 5.02

Yes, I know its the rolling one, but at the end of the year Australia were ahead.

Hence relative to their performance last year, relative to GB's performance relative to their performance last year, they have weakened.

They always start strong as CQ gives an awful lot of points for their inevitable wins in their NC's and TDU.

Good to see Kreder can stil climb, despite randomly winning bunch sprints.

I really hope he'll keep up the good work and can start winning hilly stages from reduced bunch sprints and such and maybe sprinting uphill.

Nice win for Endura. Tiernan-Locke must be on track for as good a season as you can have on that team. Russell Downing is sure to bring in some results as well.

Yeah but this guy is a British domestic pro, imagine one of the domestic Portugese guys from Carmin or some other team winning Tour of the Med, I think it would be considered very impressive.

It's even more impressive, as I'd be doubting the cleanliness of a domestic Portuguese rider..
