Tour of Denmark 2025 (12/8 - 16/8)

For the first time ever, the Postnord Danmark Rundt (PNDKR), also known as the Tour of Denmark, will start on the island of Bornholm, where one moustached man was born. (Just to be clear; he wasn't moustached when he was born... that came later.)
It will also be the last professional race of a certain Jakob Diemer Fuglsang, and will finish in Silkeborg, the town where he grew up. (It won't be finishing in his birth-town, as that would probably be too much of a detour.)

Favourites:
The overwhelming favourite is Mads Pedersen. Lidl-Trek will be starting with the full Danish WT contingent; Mads himself, Søren Kragh, and Albert Withen will be returning to the pro peloton after their dominant performance at the Danish RR Championships, which saw Kragh win, Pedersen finish runner-up, and Withen finish 4th. Meanwhile, Skjelmose will be returning to the pro peloton after picking a fight with a road sign at the Tour de France.
One guy who will attempt to twart Pedersen's goal of winning will be the aforementioned - or at least aluded to - Magnus Cort, who is skipping his defence of the Arctic Race of Norway in order to focus fully on improving on his GC position from last year.
The only other recent winner returning to the race is 2019 Champion, Niklas Larsen, who has been having a bit of a resurgence this year. Though, as we recently learned from a commentator at Tour de l'Ain, at 28 he's almost a "very young man".

Note that since the climbing competition is referred to as the "Hill Competition" - due to a lack of mountains - I suggest that we use the term 'Duke of the Hills'; 'DOH' for short.

Expecting HTV cup level time gaps, weeping mothers filling the roadsides, at least 3 stage wins and an autobiography deal given the way the Danes are going on about 'Niklas Larsen'. Samu even had some Greg Lemond style sob-story lined up about where he's been for the last 5 years, struggling in the doldrums of World Tour obscurity after a tragic dancing accident, suddenly re-finding himself 28 at the mighty BHS - PL Beton Bornholm!

Ironically this race is pretty much just as flat as Trans-Himalaya Cycling Race was, with the difference that that race took place at over 3000m above sea level.

There is no Niklas Larson. There is, however, a guy named Niklas Larsen. Won the race in 2019:

Hopefully Segaert comes in strong. Also the two wounded riders, Philipsen and Jakobsen, are back in action.
Then we have the Rockets' Kubis, maybe he can hang in there and get a decent result.

Himalaya was ironically a lot more flat. Some of these stages are decently hilly, enough to actually get a decent race. At least for Danish standards. Himalaya is just 90 km stages in completely flat terrain at 3-4k altitude.

Hopefully Mads will just dominate this one, he should be able to. 3 of these stages suit him pretty well and he's a pretty damn good time trialist as well these days

Sure, but the route itself was incredibly easy. Junior women easy. Its just a bit of a silly race tbf.

It's probably a question of taste to some extent, but I'm not the biggest fan of maze-like routes. A route should go from A to B, circuits are okay, but the concept of going back and forth just to chase elevation - no, I don't like it.

Not at all. Three of the four road race stages have approximately the same amount of elevation per kilometer as Amstel Gold Race. And the climbs are just as steep. That's why we often see stages in the Tour of Denmark look like Amstel Gold Race towards the end. In the GC, the super-sprinters have no chance.

It's good that the routes aren't even tougher as that would often decide the stage race prematurely.

What are your thoughts on the Amstel Gold Race and some of the Flanders Classics?

What are your thoughts on the Amstel Gold Race and some of the Flanders Classics?

I do think that the route of Amstel Gold Race is quite messy, but the last time I checked I found it somewhat acceptable, because the last part of the course was relatively straight-forward. But I would prefer a long, hilly circuit to an over-designed route.
