Danish cycling page Veloropa just made a rather interesting observation.
First a Dane.
Then a Norwegian.
And now a Swede.
That's a full set for Scandinavia.
A shame Ricky Enø Jørgensen and Torkil Veyhe aren't here to win the last stages for Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
Have you seen the absolute dog*** TV2 puts out when they produce their own cycling broadcasts??? We literally couldn't see who was where before they reached the circuit during the national championships...
Doesn’t matter how widely it is being broadcast around the world because other countries are just getting the same feed from the host broadcaster. And the host broadcaster in smaller countries are likely to focus on what they think is best for their home audience. It’s not like the Olympics where there are 14 different feeds and each country’s broadcaster can show the ones they want to suit their audience. It takes 1 guy from the organization to just tell them how to do it properly, also it's the organizers going with that TV company (sure they don't have a lot of choice but still).
Also this is being broadcasted everywhere basically as it's on Eurosport/Max/HBO (whatever the name is now)? They even missed the finish of a random Danish guy who had the best performance of his life.
No excuses for this.

Why are we acting like this happens in TTs in other countries? Of course there's often a national preference in what they are showing, that's not even what this is about. There is absolutely 0 excuse for showing Nikias Larsen getting on just sitting on his bike before the start for 2 minutes straight while there's others finishing or setting an intermediate time.
If Lidl-Trek hadn't said before the Tour of Denmark that they were interested in sharing the successes between them during the race, then I would have said that yes, the strongest rider in the TT won. But they did say so. So I'm not sure that Söderqvist was actually the strongest. I think it's just as likely that his victory was due to Mads Pedersen thinking it was okay for the Swede to win the stage, as long as no competitors in the GC got closer to the leader's jersey. This also fits with the fact that Mads P was level with Söderqvist halfway through, but lost time at the end. Incidentally, the Dane did not seem particularly exhausted in the minutes after the individual time trial, judging by the TV pictures.
Yup. Add to that that many top sprinters often come here under the guise that it's sprinter friendly. But they always end up losing 15-20 minutes in Vejle and 5 minutes on another hilly stage. So you have like.. 50 sprinters, 30 lead out men and a bunch of riders specialized in flat time trials. One of the biggest problems with the Tour of Denmark: It's not the startlist quality as such, but the fact that the quality is often unevenly balanced. Like when Evenepoel destroyed the race in 2021. Lidl-Trek's dominance in 2023 and Team Saxo Bank's dominance earlier are other examples.

If I were the organizers, I would just brand it as a rival to the Renewi Tour to attract more puncheurs and GC riders. 3 hilly stages, a flat one and a time trial is the perfect formular. You'd think they'd have figured it out by now...
I'd wish we had some top sprinters in the line up this year. But we don't. Six top 100 riders in total of which the strongest ones are Danes.Add to that that many top sprinters often come here under the guise that it's sprinter friendly.
Philipsen is there as the big sprinter name. But it's pretty obvious he is still recovering from the crash.I'd wish we had some top sprinters in the line up this year. But we don't. Six top 100 riders in total of which the strongest ones are Danes.
