I actually prefer that to support along strict nationalist lines - less ugliness that way, imo. The Olympics, sure. Cycling, I'm not a big a fan of it.

Sure you tend to learn more about the cyclists from your country so you're more likely to root for them, but I'm not a big fan of supporting riders simply because they are from your country and no other reason. Yes, I know I'm in the minority here.
You won't find me cheering for, let's say a name, Pieter Weening. Even if he wins.

I only like Dutch riders if they have some kind of personality or charisma.

Depends on how you define suck, but he kind of does.
Not in hilly ones like the one in Oman... once again, 10th olympics ITT, 6th Tirreno ITT (30km) 5th Pais Vasco TT and 9th Pais Vasco TT + 11th or 12th in a Dauphine 40km hilly TT

all hilly tt's...

Now I do hope we get some footage sooner and better tomorrow than what we got the last few days
I was training.
Because yes, unlike some people here, I actually exercise

That's what I wanted, the different placings. I knew you know those better than most here, so we can at least factually disprove his statements, thanks for that

This is the first climb of the tt. Looking pretty hard to me. If Gesink is doing good tomorrow, he will also do a strong tt here. He showed his skills in hilly tt's many times before.

That is kind of my point. Iban Mayo won a time trial on the Ventoux and Pantani won one on Alpe d'Huez. Nonetheless they both didn't excel (read: sucked) at time trialing. Am I making any sense here?

Don't get me wrong: Gesink is one heck of a climber.

Well, there is a significant difference between a mountain TT and a hilly TT, the latter is a lot more frequent

True, but to make a point one also needs clear examples.

I'm talking hilly TT's, not Alpe d'Huez or Ventoux
The 40km TT in the Dauphine had long flat parts in it, and 2 smaller hills, hills, not climbs. A rouleur won...

By the way, Pantani finished 3rd in a long 50km Tour ITT in 98..

No, you don't make clear examples, you make the wrong examples. A mountain ITT is completely different from a hilly time trial.

I'm 100% the same and think it's ridiculous in a way that you support people you don't know because they just happened to have born within some sort of forced border. I look at riders/people and those I like or love I support and nationality isn't a thing here. I like more colombians overall but not because they are colombian but because allmost all colombians ride with a rare sense of passion and aggresivity

You saying Pantani didn't suck at time trialing? In the same tour he finished 33 in a 58km time trial (at more than 4 minutes). The strong riders often come forward at the end of a grand tour. That does not make them good time trialists.

Sucking at TT's equals you finishing 33rd in a 58 km TT? Thats a pretty fine job for a climber especially when its flat.

Given that his heart was practically pumping pure [REDACTED FOR CLINIC PURPOSES] that doesn't really surprise me.

If you're a contender for the yellow jersey, a 33rd place does kind of suck. Plus he lost more than 4 minutes. And let's not forget it was his best year in cycling.

Looking at the hill that split the race on stage 2 - just watching highlights on eurosport 2 anyone who made that must have been riding well! Wide open this race!

Yeah, but Brown has such a bad reputation that even other sprinters appear to stay clear of him :p

With Brown's rep and Bos' ditto, post-Impey, they're bound to be dubbed as the Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid of the peloton. Or Bonny & Clyde. Or Himmler & Hess, or "the Kray twins".
Or Lennon & McCartney. Ok, admitted, the last one is a long shot. Unless you're a sicko Rabo-fan.

I tend to agree with this. The thing is though that when you are from a small cycling nation and you follow the domestic scene to some extent then you pretty much have a close relationship with all pros from that country.

Sweden very rarely have more than 3-5 pros at the higher levels at any given time so you tend to know them really well.

But you do tend to support Scandinavian riders dont you?

For example you said you created a Hushoft website back before the greens and the rainbows and you seem to be like Steve Ebh too.

I also think Pereiro doesn't suck in ITT's.

The thing is, mr. boomcie thinks not top-tt'ers are people who 'suck at TT's'

I think people who finish outside the top 50 every time trial suck at TT's.
Go to CQ ranking, check all results of Gesink in time trials (except prologues) and you'll find, he does not suck at TT's.

Period.
This is a FACT. Backed up by RESULTS. Yet people still trying to dispute the facts, why, I don't know. Maybe they are bored

Pereiro and Pantani final TT results were *wink* *wink* not indicative of their *ahem* natural ability.

I just believe the standards for a possible grand tour contender should be a little higher than top 40 or 50. Andy Schleck also totally sucks at TT, who cares.

Edit: and I'm sorry if I offend someone by merely ventilating my thoughts on a certain rider.
