Quite a different outcome than what I expected, also with bigger differences than I expected. Although I don't think that Gesink will retain the lead tomorrow, but perhaps he'll have some luck, 40 seconds is quite some time even though it is against EBH. But regardless, this year has a really good start of the season for Rabobank

All of you lay of the attacks against one another, some good natured ribbing isn't really a problem. But it seems that all sides are becoming annoyed at one another and react ever more strongly to one another. So it would be better to tone it down a little and try to see things in perspective. I'm not saying either side is really at fault here, but it appears to be spiraling toward ever more insulting and attacking which can only end with some things everyone would regret. So make up and play nice. I know most things that were said perhaps were not meant in this way and was all in good nature, but not everyone feels the same, so just take this into consideration

According to Rabosport, Gesink attacked at 2 km from the finish line. He built up a 47 second gap in just 2 kms... not bad.

43 seconds.. (47-8+4)

I think the adding of the second climb in the time trial compared to last years time trial is what makes this race interesting. Otherwise we could already say Hagen has won it (if you see the results of last year)

that is impressive, that can only mean that the last 2 km were very steep to allow for such a gap to come about

Agreed. I'll admit that I was being a bit provocative and a tool.

Gesink: "It wasn't easy. I was hurting quite a bit. Because this early in the season you are not really used to put in so much effort. I'm very happy with the way things turned out. I came to Oman for this particular stage. A 44 second gap is nice aswell. (...) Tomorrow there is a time trial. I had already planned on going all out in that time trial. Now I have something do defend as well."

You dont think?

Well he beat Cancellara last year so he cant be that bad.

I remember his performance in the Norwegian championships TT in 2009 vividly. First norwegian ever with an average speed above 50 km/h. Sure he can time-trial! He has indicated in recent interviews that he will make an effort, doing more specific training for TT's in 2011, though he still wants to be a jack-of-all-trades (don't you dare say "master of none". ;-)

Green Mountain.

Without wanting to get into the "What is ironic?" argument; it's not very...um...green is it?

Maybe by Omani standards.

Alternatively there is a fort somewhere on the mountain. The 'green' could equally be a reference to the fort.

a lot of guys took it easy so lots and lots of surprises.
There were also echelons 40 km from the climb, maybe guys like Rodriguez got caught out.
