Nice work by Gesink and Rabobank. They seem to work really well as a team and are already having a great season. Good for them.

Cue more hype than you can fit in an internet.

But that's really impressive, seriously.

Ya, certain norwegian semi-cyclingfans will never stop claiming that EBH can win the Tour now. Real fans understand that there is a big diffrence between a single 5.8km climb and a mountain stage with several 10-30km climbs. Still, very well done by him and clearly better than I had thought. I was optimistic about his chances but getting 2nd was way above that.

It looks like an earlier victory salute, but he says he dedicates this win to his father. This looks like his way of showing that.

Talentless rider in decent ride shock..

Some of the stuff on this thread is hilarious. Hagen beating Canc in a TT counts for nothing just like Bos beating Cav last year counts for nothing. yeah right

Far be it from me to claim EBH is not very talented. He is. But certainly Devenyns beating Rodriguez illustrates this race is all about form.

Every race is about form. And talent. And luck. To different degrees.

Gesink on twitter:

(transl) Dear Dad, this one is for you!

That is awesome. He was obviously riding withe the strength of his dad as well today. I am happy that he gets to honour him like that.

Agreed, but it's safe to assume that come july 95% of riders starting will be in form. Luck remains of course always a factor even though people are always trying to eliminate luck.

Damn... Rodriguez & Vino (to name but two) are both outside the Top-10 and finished at least 1:30 down on Gesink. Pretty surprising how (relatively speaking) badly they did.

Gesink sure did put the hammer down. Regardless the relative weakness of the climbing-field.

Vino said he wasnt on great form. I imagine he's probably aiming to peak for the april classics so this is a bit early for him? He didnt do very well in Tirreno-Adriatico last year
