I'm genuinely amazed, I didn't think Gesink had it in him. He was clearly hungry for the win today.

I can only hope that I'm not here when Dekker_T's hurricane of smugposting hits the thread.

How about this for ACF's avatar?

Gesink doing a facepalm?

I'm sitting here a bit sad, because the history of our sport makes my first thought "he must be on something", whenever there's a major unexpected and illogical outcome in a race - like today.

But congrats to Gesink anyway! Let's just say we didn't see this coming:eek:

No TT bikes, a climb on the way, it´s frigging februari and Gesink is not McEwen in a TT. Surprising result? Yes. Majorly unexpected and illogical? No.

I can hardly see anyone who is a contender for the TDF getting on the juice for the Tour of Oman. It's more likely that he has simply peaked way too early, he might've trained a bit too hard after the passing of his father. Unfortunately I suspect we will see a Gesink who is completely out of shape in TDF, but we will see.

Come on dude, Gesink is by far the best climber in this race, the TT included two tough hills, and he had a point to prove.

Gesink can, in fact, time trial.

I understand, but you have to keep in mind that Visconti also came 2nd for example. This wasn't a pure TT course. There were no TT-bikes and the course was going up and down.
I'm more worried about him peaking waaay too early then him being a doper. Allthough you just never know my gutfeeling about Gesink and doping is rather positive(bad word choice :D)
Now let's keep doping out of this though.

What are you talking about?

You guys are selecting the avatar for me.

I was reading previous pages to find the link for the twitter, I saw your post, and I'm agreeing that Evans is one of the best all-rounders.

Why did you chage your avatar, BTW?

He was wrong about the endresult though!

gesink was won many itt's in his career but has let it slip last years. we still don't know how he will don on an itt bike though

Ehm.....which? Dating back to his amateur days where almost every rider can claim to have won something? There's no wins (or even top3's) going back the last six seasons before this one.....

I've seen the video from the climb yesterday, I know how he looks when he's on top form, and let me tell you: he is far from that.

Gesink and Visconti 1st and 2nd in a tt. This has been a very odd race so far.

ok, I will admit Gesink is a reasonable time trialler but he will have to produce more results to really convince me.

I doubt he will win many more, but he's a reasonable TT'er. Last season you had every right to say he wasn't one. Allthough the years before last season showed he had a decent TT. I'm glad he seems to have regained it, allthough this TT doesn't really proof anything imo.

This race gets stranger. I was expecting Cummings to lose his leaders jersey in the TT in algarve, and EBH to gain the leaders jersey in Oman.

On this logic maybe Steve Cummings will beat Tony Martin in Portugal.
