Slow racing today. Moderate cross wind on the journey back to Sur. It is almost a false flat all the way to about 180km with a downhill run back into Sur after that.

The Twitpics are also great. I just learned that Bedouins drive around in snazzy pick-up trucks in the desert.

interesting.

will be fascinating to see how the teams - especially katusha and rabo - tackle the climb.

I think Gesink will be up there, dunno if he will win. Top 3 I'd expect tho.
I still like jrod tho.
Most likely scenario. Vino attacks early but blows up. Gesink sets a steady pace, and it ends up in a way only Rodriguez can follow.
Rodriguez keeps waiting, waiting, waiting and then strikes with another final KM uphill sprint like he did a few times in the Vuelta.

If Rodriguez makes the mistake to attack himself he usually blows himself up (happened in the Tour once and in the Vuelta twice)

There's also Fuglsang, Blanco, Sinkewitz... they all could win this. It's not some massive col we're talking about here. There was also a seriously steep climb in the Ruta del Sol last year. Same point in the season, won by Pardilla in front of the bigger names.

Huh what 5.8 km's with 10% average, rising to what 17% max? No way in hell if Gesink / Rodriguez will ride tempo they wont be able to follow :).

Pardilla won that stage by attacking early on the climb, together with VDB. Someone like Fuglsang could pull that off as well.

Also dont forget Pardilla is a great climber and would propably be 3. favorite behind Purito and Gesink if he participated here.

Fuglsang might, he is strong
Blanco, well if he is charged properly, yeah.

Sinkewitz, no way.

Pardilla and Gesink have a history together, they raced against eachother in the U23 category too. Gesink always kicked Pardilla's behind... :p

I like Tour of Oman but today must be torture for the riders. After the transer to the start by boat, the 208 km race, they still have a 250 km transfer to the hotel ...
