What was the deal with Kristoff not contesting the final sprint and coming 19th?

I would have assumed an all out war between EQS and Katusha for GC. Gentleman's agreement perhaps??

Katusha simply felt the heat of shepherding the outstanding favourite all day long; sure Kristoff doesn't need a dedicated team but it helps. The may take some lessons from it ahead of San Remo.
