Pogacar saved by the sprinters. If they hadn't closed the gap, he'd have lost 30 seconds in GC.

There are two more days with similar climbs though, I wonder if he can refind his legs. Tomorrow's climb is even more brutal, 5km @ 9% average.

Mixed day for Mitchelton Scott - Chaves looks super strong and Mezgec did brilliantly well to get over the cat 2 climb and win the sprint - Somehow Hamilton was involved in a silly crash, while loitering at the back of the peleton with 40kms to go and never got back to the peleton.

Mezgec has always a monster climbing form in his home race.

He should really specialize in those type of finishes, he would be hard pressed to outsprint the pure sprinters, but he's still a better sprinter than Ulissi and other fast man who can climb.

The problem is that outside of this race he never climb this good and usually is able to contests only big group/mass sprints in which he can aim only to lesser placements, at least in recent seasons because when he was at Giant he was a lot faster but he has never shown that speed again since he moved to Orica.

I just saw the final 22 kilometers of the stage. That was nice stage. Chaves slowly coming back to form. Hopefully he'll have a good Vuelta.
Not sure who is going to win this race.

Did Chaves hit the deck twice? Seemed to be MTS riders down during the highlights but not sure who

Yes according to the team report. He had to chase down the leaders twice.

Quick Diego.
The teamwork helped.
Good racing again, but the TV production was messy.
