You know perfectly well that riders nowadays routinely throw away very demanding stages just because they've forgotten how to attack before the final climb. I think smaller teams would be a good way to increase the incentive for making the races hard, because at the moment there are quite a few very strong teams who are able to exert too much control to make attacking from distance worthwhile.
