Strange interview on tuttobiciweb with Pozzato about his choice to join Farnese.

He mention that he had almost made a deal with Lampre but then got an (unwanted) contact by Saronni, but doesnt explain what was the email content.
Then he said he spoke with Riis but he (Riis?) wanted him to go to Lugano to train and also here doesnt explain whats up with Lugano (any clinic issue?).

No, Lugano is a place were a lot of athletes train of all kinds of sport. Great sport facilities and a mild climate. Perhaps Pippo wants to remain in Italy for training although if someone dropped you of in Lugano and said you were in Italy you'd believe him.

I thought that was known for quite a while already?

I didn't know. Still, good to see Matt securing a decent berth

(even though his defection to Ireland still hurts!!)

Mr.Andreas Klier will stay with Garmin-Cervelo for 2 more seasons.

That is good news. Especially for Vanmarcke, he has Mr. Ronde van Vlaanderen on his team to guide him through the race.
Nice to see this experienced rider continue.

Possibly it means "go somewhere to train where I can keep an eye on you, you lazy ******", and Pozzato wasn't interested :)

Why the hell would Pozzato join Farnesse Vini??? He could win races but what a step down.

Maybe its a clinic thing, maybe he just wants a little to win a lot of races and get his form back, maybe he thinks his name will get the invites he wants for his team. My original thought was he wanted guarntedd leadership in all 'his' leadership? Couldn't he of got that at greenedge? Would of been a great tot in my opinion.

Yeah he seems cool in Beyond the Peloton. Hope Vanmarcke gets a bit more freedom in De Ronde next year, but Haussler + Farrar are still there.

Funny enough Cancellara might try to patch things up with Riis for the future. Might be putting too much into it but he states "that cycling is a small world were ppl's paths might cross again. He never intented to leave the team in a bad manner and that at some point he will have a bottle of wine with Riis so they can put things behind them". As I see it he tries to rebuild a burned bridge in case he will need to cross it sometime in the future.

EDIT: on a 2nd thought he is stating that prior to the WC in Denmark, so I think he is just being polite towards the hosts.

Regarding Fuglsang last year he stated that I couldnt imagine ever riding for Contador against his friends (the Schlecklets). After the RS merger some ppl are getting less cocky it seems. He is still under contract for one more year btw, but he could pull a Fabian, u never know (0;

Really - Jumping on the Cav finishes 4th bandwagon now - just so the delay of the announcement looks even more stupid

unless he is not signing for Sky and does not want GB teammates to know beforehand. OK not very likely but the thought may panic a couple of people.

think it has been said before but as far as i know all rider transfers have to be announced by 20th October for that rider to count towards points next year so could be another month before everything is confirmed.

Given up waiting for Cavs announcement but am interested to know who else is out the door at Sky. If Cav plus some friends are coming there have to be some more to leave.

GreenEdge seem to have gone strangely quiet as well

It was widely known, but it has only just been confirmed. And yes, it is good to see him moving to another good team. He's a strong domestique and is capable of picking up a win or two himself.

As for the Ireland thing, all kidding aside that was the best move he ever made. Winning a national TT championship and two national road championships in two years is a big thing and gets him a level of attention that he wasn't getting as a British rider. Obviously it's a bigger deal to be a British champion, but it isn't as if he was going to win either British championship. Whereas in Ireland, he only has to beat three other pro tour riders, all of whom are basically climbers even though Nico and Dan can sprint a bit, and the lads on An Post and Giant Kenda. On a relatively flat parcours, he's the big favourite.

And to be fair to the guy, if I remember correctly, he didn't defect out of the usual opportunism but because his then An Post team mates found out that he qualified and really wanted him to help out the Irish track team.

Also, he's one of the more entertaining pros on twitter, often taking the **** out of Cavendish and his former An Post team mates. And he can spell, which is a rarity to be cherished amongst cyclists on twitter.

Davis to Greenedge.
"Allan Davis, the 2010 Commonwealth Games road race gold medallist, will be riding for the GreenEDGE Cycling team in 2012 and has set the London Olympic Games as one of his major targets."

Is his name seriously Winner? Talk about preassure!
Only because we're not used to it. We don't make these comments about the name Victor, which means the same thing.
