Rabobank, Liquigas, and Lampre are reportedly battling for Cayetano Sarmiento's (Acqua & Sapone) signature.

The Colombians, they're taking over :p

Raymond Kreder will ride for the Garmin-Cervelo pro team, as of next year. Yes, he's that other guy's brother.

Barry Markus will join Vacansoleil as a stagiaire, as of August. He's a sprinter (and potentially a very good one, I'm surprised Rabo has let him go).

Markus is a very decent sprinter. Potential.
Problem is how many riders can rabo really bring into the squad each year.

Good to see kreder get a pro contract anyway.
now time for wes (he is cousin?)
I hope Markus joins vasc. tho. Would like to see more dutch riders at vasc.

Langeveld to Green Edge looks likely with the way he talked about his new team.

That would be a good solid signiture for Greenedge. Do you have a link??? I had a quick look but couldnt find anything

Was an interview yesterday before the Dutch championships on the NOS, he said his new team was going become a good team. So unless there's another team being created he was probably talking about GreenEdge.

markus was already at physical peak at age 16 or so. the guy isn't improving and he's a bit like levi heimans in track, who already had a full grown beard at age 15

Ahh thanks! that would make sense. Certainly would rule out Sky one would thing. Possibly could be one of the Lotto or Omega teams but GE would certainly fitt the bill best.

It's just a hunch, but I'm starting to feel like Gilbert will go for a Belgian team. In an interview yesterday he said the following:

Ik kan de komende drie jaar wereldkampioen of olympisch kampioen worden, of alle klassiekers winnen die ik nog niet won. Geld is belangrijk, maar niet het belangrijkste. De organisatie van de ploeg, het materieel, de ploegmaten: dat speelt allemaal mee.

In the next three years I can either become world champion or Olympic champion, or win all the classics I haven't won yet. Money is an important factor, but not the most important one. The organization of the team, the material, the teammates, they all play a role.

He really seems to be focused on the worlds and the Olympics and he'll need Belgian teammates to win those. I know it sounds a little far fetched, but the way he stresses these points make me think in that direction.

Could also be read as which team will sign the teammates he wants as well - ie if Quickstep only want Gilbert but BMC will sign Gilbert plus 3 rides as his support then BMC wins -

I find it a bit hard to believe that gilbert will go to BMC, I just have the feeling that he prefers a belgian team.

It does sound far fetched. Having a big wallet has always been a much better way for gaining support in a world championship or the Olympics, you really don't need actual teammates that are compatriots for that. Besides, there are many cases were teammates helped eachother on a world championship, even if they aren't from the same country (the reason I expect we'll see 20 HTC guys (or whatever team he is riding on) working for Cav during the next Olympics).

With the level he has right now, Gilbert could easily demand a team riding completely for him, there is no Belgian cyclist who has any right for a co-leadership next to him. I don't think having a great team working for him during a world championship will be difficult, he doesn't have to go to a Belgian team for that.
