Big and unexpected news for me tbh.

Gianni Meersman leaves Lotto-Belisol over WorldTour uncertainty

http://www.velonation.com/News/ID/1...Lotto-Belisol-over-WorldTour-uncertainty.aspx

Some team had to make him very good offer. So it's gotta be someone like Sky, BMC or RSNT.

hmm, a rider leaving over uncertainty of the team getting into the WT. That won't bode well for the teams world tour hopes.

On the bright side it would give Saxo and Argos a better chance of getting in the WT. 😱

That's just an excuse to get a bigger paycheck.

Even if it was, the fact that he is leaving and that this is the reason he is giving for his departure doesn't do the teams WT hopes any favor.

WT points aren't going with Meersman, he missed the deadline.

This is just an excuse to get a bigger paycheck, nothing more nothing less.

So this Meersman guy is probably one of the smartest of them all. He hasn't even got an incredible talent but still he gets a good salary out of it. Chapeau for him!

O silly me... All I remember from him this year was that he wanted to win the Brabantse Pijl, but gave up during the local laps. Oh yeah, and raising his hands in the last stage of Tour Wallonie or something. He didn't impress in the major classics at all.

He claims to have the same potential as Gilbert(maybe you can tell me more about his potential or where he's shown this), but he's just a sprinter. Ofc he's had a lot of injuries which have slowed him down. But he's almost 27, he should've shown something impressive in the classics already.

He has won a stage in Paris-Nice and Algarve. He's had a lot of injuries and did show to have a lot of talent in the U23, but that's not always a guarantee to become a big winner of course. So he definitely has potential, but it's hard to predict. To assume he's being overpaid in relation to his talent when you don't even know his paycheck is a bit silly...

I suppose it's not TOO major, but the podium of San Sebastián isn't too shabby.

Defend your only Spanish classic a bit more lol.

They should also bring back the Escalada a Montjuïc.

Lol.

When someone's only response is "No, you", you know nothing more needs to be said.

I hope to god pisti is 8 yuers old always/ because everytime someone says something about him or belgium he will counter with "no, you" or better yet in dutch: "wat je zegt ben jezelf, met je kop door de helft." I remember sayign when we were 4 years old

Exactly. He used to counter me by devaluing a Dutch rider, until he discovered that I generally don't care about Dutch riders and if I like them the reason is not nationality. Now he counters with nothing, which is both amusing and annoying.

Dude, we we're having a normal discussion until you brought up Belgium for no reason at all and started slamming me. Grow up man. You seriously whine about something in all of your posts, it's tiresome(I'm not even over-reacting). Some of you Dutch people here on this forum are really annoying. Are you that jealous of my nationality that you need to bring it up all of the time?

I actually put you on my ignore list for a while hence I didn't respond anymore. 😉 What makes you think I know what riders you like or not? I don't read your posts unless you quote me.

So I called Clasica San Sebastian a decent race and said in a jokingly manner that he shouldn't underrate it as a Spaniard(or Portuguese?). Yes, I'm such a troll. 🙄

If that's what you meant, you should think about constructing your messages more clearly. Irony and sarcasm are difficult to detect in plain text and the message you sent comes across as derogatory more than as funny.

You do realize there's a sarcasm emoticon on this forum right? If I didn't mean what I said I'd use that emoticon.

Anyway, Gianni Meersman already has an oral agreement with a different WT(I assume) team. Wouldn't be the first time he broke an oral agreement though.

And to construct my message more clearly(😉): he had an oral agreement with Team Leopard this year, but joined Lotto instead after he heard the news about Leopard-Trek and Radioshack merging. If I remember correctly, Radioshack-Nissan-Trek wasn't very happy about that, so I don't think he's going to Radioshack.

A possible team could be BMC, but with Gilbert and Hushovd there he won't get many chances for him self... So I don't think that's an option.

OPQS doesn't have a full squad yet I think. And they don't have that many riders that are good in the races he is/wants to be good in.

They also have GVA, Blythe and at a stretch Phinney. They do not need Meersmann- they need climbers for Evans/TJVG (now that he is a leader as well).
