CAS, Kreuziger, Coppel, Roche....

This is starting to look like decent support Contador. :)

Maybe Riis was jealous of the Sky train?

Anyone heard anything about Sami joining Conti at Saxo? I know they've been rumoured to team up before but just heard about this happening for next year?_?

If Bjarne is clever he won't sign Samu.

A powerful ally in the race who can't challenge a win from Alberto, 8 extra orange helpers and willingly colaborate with Contador.

Good for Contador but bad for racing.
It is more exciting if they race against each other.
But maybe we need strong Spanish front against Brits (and Kenyans).

Any rumours of riders moving to Liquigas, there's been plenty about those possibly leaving (Nibali, Oss, Szmyd, Agnoli etc) but little going the other way? I can recall one move was Betancur which I hope turns out to be true.

Edit: Possible return for Kreuziger? (see post above)

Nah, Riis has never really been into the train thing, not even when the team spent a lot of its energy on TTT'ing. He like his specialist and using them as pieces in a games og chess. Can't really see that changing as a train would be working more to than against Wiggin's strengths. Expect a team using breakaways to set up devious attacks.

Liquigas might be keeping Nibali; if Frandy go to Astana, I can't really see Nibali going elsewhere.

I don't see problems in both joining Astana.

They would not have that kind of money, and no way Nibali would want to be on the same team as them. No freedom for Nibali.

Not with Nibali favouring the Giro but I thought the Schleck>Astana fell through when they only wanted Andy without Frank (though this may become a moot point).

BMC has three riders with 3 millions salary each.

Noone at Astana makes as much.

Even Nibali's new contract is supposedly less than that.

And that is just salaries.

Astana's budget is definitely up there with Katyusha's and Sky's though (> 15 mill euro).

Or you just guessing...

probably should have said potential budget, but have seen articles saying this before. You need only look at the 2009 Astana team and the money they were spending then. A quick google search of their budget gives them a budget of $21.3 million in 2009, that's considerably bigger than the budgets of Rabobank, Leopard-Trek and Katusha in 2011 which were shown here http://www.cyclingtips.com.au/2011/07/le-tour-diary-stage-8-team-budgets/ as the teams with the biggest budgets in 2011

I read in a Belgian newspaper that Garmin wants Coppel.

Vaughters denied it on twitter.

This: "the Inner Ring ‏@inrng
L'Equipe reported last week that Coppel could join Garmin... news of which may have scared away Saur-Sojasun's replacement sponsor for 2013.

21 Jul Jonathan Vaughters ‏@Vaughters
@inrng which is totally ridiculous, as I haven't spoken to Coppel since 2009. The press' attitude to transfer rumors really ****es me off."

and this: "Jonathan Vaughters ‏@Vaughters
Dear potential sponsor for Saur-Sojasun: While I think Jerome Coppel is a great talent, he has not signed with my team for 2013+. #bull****"

That's such a BS link, really badly informed. Look at the Sky and BMC budgets  Seven million is just for Gilbert and Evans ;)

15 million is Rabo's overall team budget, which includes the women's, offroad, and development teams.

Of course, but it's just a way of pointing out that this budget is way too low. Even for their Gilbert-less 2011. Just think of what Evans alone makes in a year.

They had Evans, Phinney, Hincapie, Ballan and a bunch of inexpensive riders basically. No Gilbert, Hushovd, TJVG or GVA. So what if Evans took up half of the budget? It was a small team back then.
