Swiss newspaper Blick states that Cancellara wanted to get out of his contract (due to Schleck testing positive, and Bruyneel's association to Armstrong).

This was, however, not possible, and despite desperately trying (along with his lawyers) to get out, he did not succeed, and as such will have to continue another year.

How can teams buy riders out of contracts now, but Fabian couldn't just pay RadioShack and leave?

Rumors from Rai's Radiocorsa;

-as actual Liquigas couldn't find a big sponsor to replace their main's one, the team might lose Basso which would help the team's smaller budget - he seems to be still requested by Contador
-Pozzato is talking these days with Farnese Vini for a possible renew of his contract althought he still has many other offers
-Di Luca is said to have a small chance to move to Farnese Vini as well
-BMC is looking for a strong climber for the GTs and one name would be Andreas Kloden
-Lampre is said to have some big changes going on which might affect Petacchi and Cunego

Considering most bodies can only cope with peak level performance for a number of years (there's a reason no-one won the Tour more than 5 times), it is actually bad to be at the peak in youth ranks. Better save that for the years 26-32.
And what talents are we talking about, who peaked in the U23 ranks?

Your whole thing was that Danish riders have failed as pros because they could not adapt due to the fact that they had some unclear and unexplained better conditions than everyone else as U23's.

That's a strange argument, even after you specified it was only for riders who were with GLS/Capinordic. None of these riders ever dominated as U23 or junior. Almost all the riders on your list were with that team for one or at most two years. It was just a team like every other, not a Rabobank-like system where cyclists start at seventeen years old. Steensen was never there btw. And Chris Anker Sørensen was for one year.

Only Guldhammer was there in the team's last year, 2009. Your fantasies about GLS and their bus of gold and the amazing luxuries they had there does not apply to Lander or any other younger riders.

Steensen and Vinther are both 25. Steensen's best result as an under was third overall at Tour de l'Avenir. He will go to a good team next year after many injuries at Saxo. Vinther's best result was a stage victory at Tour de l'Avenir. This is his first year as a pro. None of them will be another Pinot or Sagan but can be solid riders who can win races from time to time, have fun, make a living, whatever.
steensen, lund, berendt hansen, pedersen, christensen, bochman, all dominated u23 and or juniors. if you didn't know that then your arguments are even more hollow...

also chris anker sorensenb was never part of gls/ph.capinordic. you are completely wrong abotu just anything. check simple facts before you open your mouth again

Yeah, they need to get some climbers to support Van Garderen in the future, but Kloden is not the answer. They should try and sign someone still coming up like Matthew Busche. Didn't his contract just end with Radioshack? Or is there one more year left on it?

Before you start being cocky and all that when talking about danish riders towards danes, you might want to consider whether your little data index really is the answer for everything.

Actually CAS rode for team PH in 2002 or 2003 (but iirc his 2003 season was ruined by illness). But I still think that u got a point - but ofc it wont apply to every rider. And no reason to become arrogant towards fellow debaters

If BMC want a strong climber they should sign one that is under 30 years old. At 37 years how many years can Kloden realistically keep riding for? It's not like he is a Jens Voigt that can still make people hurt even when he's in his 40's.

I dó my best dó be nice to every1 who is nice to me. But when certain individuals are arrogant, trying to "lecture" or otherwise arent nice I admit that I am diffinately human and can stray from the highroad.

From the U23 race thread ;)

Lutsenko:

About the race: ,,It was difficult from the start. I suffered a lot. Our team’s tactic was to control the race and wait. The team did a great job in the last lap. They kept the pack together and me in the front. The Cauberg was very hard though, I lost a lot of positions but managed to get back. Then I just went as fast as humanly possible.”

About the future: ,,I’ve been in great shape all year. Won a stage in the Tour de l’Avenir and a couple of races in Italy. So I was able to sign a contract with the Astana-pro team about a month ago. Next year I’ll try and win my first elite-race. Am I the new Vinokourov? Everything is possible. If I work real hard I think good results as a professional are possible.”
