Yes, but they could have picked up known quality riders who have or still are struggling to find a team like Ponzi, or Seeldrayers etc for what I would assume would be for very little money, but instead they go for complete unknowns? It baffles me.

I don't thonk that rider like Valgren , Jesper Hansen and Poljanski is complete unknowns.

Valgren won the LBL U23 the last 2 years - Pojanksi is polish u23 champ from last year and was F... by an italien team this year.

Jesper Hansen is a very good danish climber and has deserved a chance. The slovak I never heard about.

Just to remind you. Who had ever heard about Rafal Majka a few years ago when Riis signed him.

Good to see Riis signing some new names. Shift some non performers out and try some new ones. solid plan imo.

Of course the team needs to get the top riders to perform to make the "system" work.

Why should anyone sign a guy like Oroz? He does not have exactly a lot to offer (apart from being Basque, which was of course enough for Euskaltel). Even crappy Portuguese Continental teams (and they are all crappy) could get dozens of better riders.

Well this is beyond silly so shouldn't really comment. But please tell me which riders (in dozens) Portuguese Continental Teams could get that have better palmares than:

- Top ten Criterium International
- Top twenty in both Paris Nice and Tirreno
- Completed eight Grand Tours
- Finishing endless numbers of monuments even if he always works hard as a helper.

In addition Oroz was in the leading bunch when being brought down in a corner in Paris-Roubaix this year.
But he is 33, so unfortunately I don't think he will find a new team next year given the number of teams that has folded.

I fairly sure a few guys on portuguese teams could build that kind of palmares easily if they were given the chance.

Just because you don't closely follow the scene it doesn't mean it completely sucks.

Don't believe me? Just look at what kind of results teams like Lampre and more recently Sojasun and Colombia are getting at the Volta which is the only race on the entire year the Portuguese peloton targets, simply because there aren't many races for them to race due to the economical crisis in Portugal and Spain.

Thats exactly why other teams arent scoring that high there, the Portugese teams/riders target the Volta where WT/PCT teams often send a weak squad and riders who normally dont peak there.

Im not saying the Portugese scene is weak but the results from the Volta a Portugal dont show that much.

Useful signings for Tavira. Cardoso in particular will be likely to get them some results or at least some placements in the flatter races. A shame for him that he's had to return to Portugal, but he's had a nice little run with a couple of WT years and a couple of years with Caja Rural, guess the combination of a disappointing 2013 season and the rise of Francesco Lasca made him rather surplus to requirements.

So Slongo moving to Astana to rejoin Nibali, and former T-Mobile, HTC and Katusha coach Sebastian Weber replacing him at Cannondale.

So Paolo Slongo will leave Cannondale for Astana, good news for AST and Nibali but bad news for Cannondale. Slongo did some good job for training young guns.

Savio says he has the same style as Rujano, but a better mentality. Good engine as well according to their experts.(meaning approximately 9W/kg on the ergometer)

He can always look back to the day when he beat Alejandro Valverde and the World Champion Cadel Evans in a WT race.

Yea, that was great. Shame he had to be wearing the awful grey Portuguese champs' kit at the time. Next to nobody knew who he was, but he timed that one perfectly.

Pretty good, no worse than the stable of average climbers below Basso/Caruso so a good fit for rider and team.
