More freedom. After Basso, Bennett would be close to being their best climber. He won't be taking many opportunities from the classics guys and should have a good selection of races. Garmin and BMC have plenty of similar riders to Bennett on their rosters.

At first i though Lampre but i wouldn't be surprised if Saxo re-signed him simply because he is cheap and a useful domestique.

Oh wow, didn't expect that to happen! Happy for Pires though, IMO he's a quality domestique, both in mountain and flat stages, definitely ProTour material, even though he's had a bit of an unconventional trajectory

I think he was very fortunate to score a spot on a decent team where he may get some chances. There is a lot of (better) riders still without a team for 2014.

But from what it sounds like he could have gotten a spot on Lampre too, but made the "wrong" decision and missed out
