You sure about Canc? I believe his contract is up at the end of this year but Trek are hopeful of him remaining with the team.

Cancellara will stay with the team, the new trek team will be built around him and the classics.

Yes but my understanding is that this will be a new contract as his current expires at the end of the year.

Hard to imagine Trek having a classics oriented team. Throughout the Bruyneel years it was a GT team and what sponsor can afford to ignore the Tour? Don't know where I'm going with this...

You don't have to ignore the Tour to focus on classics, they want to keep Andy after all. The teams for Giro and Vuelta will probably be secondary though.

It's not the same team as the one under Bruyneel. It's a completely different one. And hopefully we see Andy get back to his old level so they have someone who can be competitive in GT's.

They don't have to ignore the tour just ignore(not support) the overall. Look at what HTC 2009, 2010, 2011 with Cav. I bet you noticed them at the tour more than everyone who came in 5th or below and didn't take a stage or wear a jersey. Would be interesting to see what Cancellara could do at the tour without having to work as a domestique.

Yeah I suppose he can go for the maillot jaune for the first week like he has in the past. Trek have always had a potential gc winner for the last decade + though. They'd probably chew an arm off to get Van Garderen or Talansky.

Alexander Kristoff has decided to renew with Katusha. He had offers from e.g. Astana, Sky and Saxo, but decided to stay in Katusha because they offer him a lot of freedom and support in the races he targets.

From an average sprinter he has evolved into arguably Norway's best rider. No need for him to leave.

I think EBH still has a bit more class than Kristoff overall but there's no doubt which one I'd rather have a) in the cobbles classics and b) in bunch sprints. He's certainly done very well for himself since leaving the shambles that is BMC.

How about Wiggins?

I think wiggins may struggle come contract time. He was bought on as an outside shot at a tour victory, now that he won(and easily) he no doubt thinks he's worth being paid as one of 3, with contador and froome, dead certainties as a tour contender, but his performance since winning the tour so far hasn't indicated that's what he is.
Sky don't need him, and who else is going to pay? He needs to win la vuelta to get paid what he wants i think, and this year is full of rodriguez finishes, so that will be really tough.

Also on Trek, I'd expect the budget to shrink significantly. Andy may struggle to find a ride as well for similar reasons.

Wiggins and Schleck, does anyone want to start a jilted riders team?

The WT license system (ranking) operates with rider's points from a rolling 2 year period. Sir Wiggo could easily be targeted for his '12 points alone.

So Wiggo going to Euskatel.

(agree, the Knight will end up taking a paycut in any case)

hhhm interesting about euskadel. was thinking more cannondale for wiggins due to the team being without a gc rider but euskadel is another possibility. but it all depends on whether froome wins the tour, which in turn depends on andy and contadors form. at any rate sky are stupid for discarding wiggins especially given the fact that he has won a gt and froome hasnt

Lol, you actually even remotely think Wiggins could go to Cannondale or Euskaltel?

If so, you're having a laugh ( no disrespect to anyone ). Wiggins will either retire or go to a English based team i.e. Garmin at best.

Not sure Sky will not extend for 1 year with him. The image he's carrying in Britian is massive. And that's the most important thing for Sky.

Even if Wiggins is not performing, he's getting them more publicity than e.g. winning smaller races noone or no general public cares for in Uk.

yes that's true however wiggins isn't really needed anymore by sky. he won't put up with being prevented from being leader at a gt and only riding smaller races so will move to another team where he is leader. both the 2014 tour and giro have already been allocated to froome and porte, leaving wiggins only the vuelta. doubtless he won't like this and will try and ride the tour with sky - froome won't allow that, so the only option is to move to another team. the situation is becoming a bit like cav and team sky
