It appears the "shocking news" got lost somewhere along the way

I am starting to think someone really is just trolling . . .

Are you just figuring that out now. :p

spot on, not sure whether sky will allow this year or next though, but the relationship between froome and sky is dead, brailsford wanted wiggins to lead at tour again this year

Hearing Costa might also end up there

Biciciclismo, which is a reliable source unlike a certain poster who is starting to look very much like an attention *****, reports that Lampre and Astana are also in the race for Costa and both are making better offers than Movistar, BMC and AG2R.

Lampre is pretty much going all in offering full support and leadership on every race Costa chooses and is also offering lots of money. I already predicted a possible Lampre interest on CarroVassoura a couple weeks ago due to the interest Lampre has on the portuguese market.

Astana is offering a lot of money but he would need to take Nibali into account when choosing his schedule which could mean focusing on the Giro next year GT wise. Apparently Specialized is pushing for this as they seem to have taken a like of Costa and think he could be a marketable rider.

Of this 2 imo Astana would be the better option as i don't think Costa is fully ready to lead a team by himself.

That's good news, would much rather see him at Lampre or Astana then at BMC or Sky or AG2R. He would especially be a very good signing for Lampre, as they really need some guys that can win big races like him.

Think I'd like to see him at Astana the most too, but wouldn't mind seeing him at Lampre. Both would be pretty good options.

Well, these options do sound better than BMC does but neither are perfect.

Astana doesn't sound so good unless he wants to go for the GC of the Giro or the Vuelta. They have great supporting cast but other than Nibali they don't really have another GC guy (maybe Fuglsang if he fits that definition). However, if he's aiming for the Ardennes he has a conflict of interest with Gasparotto (and possibly Nibali if his schedule will be like his 2012 one).

At Lampre he would have a significantly worse supporting cast if he wants to do a GT but could still lead, but it would again be problematic to race against Scarponi at LBL (plus there's Cunego). If Scarponi leaves (as cyclingfever suggests) than it will in fact be the perfect team to go to.

I know that it's possbible to go to a Classic with two equal leaders but again, these options are not perfect but good.

Why would Froome leave a team with one of the biggest budgets in cycling for a team that doesn't exist.

Utter,utter rubbish!

Costa to Lampre sounds great. Lampre need some improvement. And its better for the sport to have good riders in several team instead of all good rider just riding in a about five teams.

SKY, BMC and Astana do have to much money.

please god work your magic, just like you did for Jesus those couple of times.

If you're referring to Jesus Hernandez, that was Alberto who saved his career. Some people think he's god. :p

Bunch of transfer news on CN homepage here, including Malori to Movistar.

edit-
If Rui is definitely leaving Movistar, I'd be happy to see him at Astana. Although they could be in danger of sweeping the podium in the Ardennes :)

No Ten Dam to sky and no Costa to sky :) nice

Also, Tinkov said he would offer 10 mln to Froome even though I don't believe he did.

Would be interesting to see Froome without sky marginal gains. It will give us quite an insight.

One thing BMC have been short on is mountain support. Stetina is a solid climbing domestique. Seems like the kind of unspectacular, non-marquee, signing they could do with a few more of.

They don't have an offensive climbing GC rider and he's not good enough to support a defensive climbing GC rider. He's just another Morabito/Moinard clone and not going to improve their laughable talent/spending ratio.

I agree. If you have a defensive climbing GC rider tactics and signings look like Sky last year with Wiggins. Only now Evans climbs about as well as Wiggins, maybe not even and can't TT anywhere near as well.

Hesjedal, who was hardly riding as an offensive climber, seemed to find him useful enough at the Giro 2012, where he was the second strongest climbing domestique on the team and one of the stronger ones in the race.

Assuming that they aren't paying him the wages of a super-domestique, he's a useful addition to the team. He's not going to provide the kind of lynchpin support riding that's expected from a Porte or a Kreuziger or some other chief lieutenant but he's not going to be on that kind of money either. It's always useful to have a few guys around who can hang around with the last 25 or 30 riders on a climb.

hesjedal had Liquigas doing the work.
