Bakelants: I deserve an adequate salary

"So far, nothing is decided and it's really problematic. (...) Certain people forget that I won a stage at the Tour de France and that I had a good season. Therefore I think that I should be paid adequately. I don't ask for too much, nor too little, but I hope that after this victory (Grand Prix Wallonie, ed.) things will get moving, cause this is where the problem lies currently. If it's not possible, I'll go elsewhere, to a Belgian team. Why not Quick Step or Lotto? I want things to move forward and I have good hopes of staying with Trek. I want this to be done before the World Championships! I'm not asking for much, but I at least deserve an adequate salary, I think."

He should move to Lotto.

So that signing means at least 3 of these riders are leaving Garmin:

BAUER Jack
FARRAR Tyler
HAAS Nathan
MILLAR David
NAVARDAUSKAS Ramunas
RATHE Jacob
ROSSELER Sébastien
ZABRISKIE David

Rosseler and Farrar seem very likely. I wonder who the other one will be...
Is Caleb Fairly confirmed to stay?
Nathan Haas would be my pick to leave, if it is me to decide.

I enjoy Garmin's activity on transfer market this season. Those who will join the team may not be big names but they either have potential for some big things in the future (Van Baarle, Normann and maybe Brown), can already top10 in some WT races (Slagter, Langeveld) or bring some needed depth to their climbing power (Cardoso).

I just hope they will have some more luck in GTs and it can be a good season for them next year.

Interesting. They want a leader for the giro or something?

Also hows his knee injury. I remember reading it was a potential career destroying one.

Starting to add some half decent* climbers to the squad.
Johan Esteban Chaves
Michael Albasini
Ivan Santaromita
Cameron Meyer
Simon Clarke
Daniel Teklehaimanot - not sure if he's staying.
Yates twins if they sign.

Orica could put together a team able to support a climber and still support Goss or Mathews for the sprints stages.

*I only said half decent, no need for anyone to jump down my throat.

Yes, he said in a recent interview that he has a contract with Garmin for next year.

Good. He has made some progress this year and he can be useful domestique for hills or mountains.
He doesn't set the world on fire but I prefer him than another non-American rider who neither can climb nor bring big results in flat races.

Wiggins?

Fair point. I suppose after last years farce anything is worth a try.

Any chance of getting the Yates brothers (despite the OGE rumours)? Or would the presence of Dombrowski, Boswell and Sebastian Henao make their long term prospects too unappealing?

Wouldn't mind getting Sam Bennett to replace the woeful Ben Swift either.

That's very harsh. Swift is a talented rider who has been plagued by injuries in the last two seasons.

I think there's room for the Yates brothers at Sky but it seems there is interest elsewhere which is normal after their L'Avenir results.

He may have been very promising but injuries have left him too far behind and his performances have been very poor, even when selected for flat races with few dedicated sprinters.

Would much rather see Swift move back to the track or move to a pro-conti team where he could at least have some impact and have Sam Bennett replace him. It might be too early to say but Bennett seems to have the potential to be a very useful sprinter at races like the Vuelta.

Agree 100% with him, hope that he either sticks with Trek or signs with Lotto. And that he get's paid what he is asking. He's done enough this season to earn a good sized paycheck.

perhaps they can reshuffle the budget a bit. Anyway besides Greipel, JVDB and Roelandts he would be a main player with massive opportunities.

Along with Monfort and Gallopin his presence would greatly add to the teams strength on the climbs. Lotto would also be able to send much stronger teams to the Giro and Vuelta (as well as a number of hillier classics).

well, If I was in charge I would cut salaries of riders who can't perform at a high consistent level through the season....

Haas came 2nd in ToB last year, then stupidly had to work for Steitna at Langkawi. He offers more for the Ardennes and some stage races then others/ this year was his first GT.

Speaking of Steitna, he's leaving so the addition of Cardoso is just keeping their climbing domestique level.

Weening
Also Gerrans for races like the TDU.

He should be ready to ride at the start of next season. Then its still the question how he comes back after the injury, but so far the healing process is going fine.

Speaking of Bennett, is there any chance of him getting a move to a WT or ProConti outfit this year?

He was seen as a big talent as a junior, but then stalled a bit with injuries as an espoir. Now as a 22 year old, he has been very good in the Tour of Britain. I'd always thought he was a straightforward flat sprinter, but he's been great over the hills in this race. Firstly, he blitzed the field on an uphill sprint a few stages ago, only to get beaten by Ciolek. Today he won a sprint from a fifteen man elite selection after some reasonably tough climbing. He even followed in Quintana's wheel after Nairo attacked on the second last climb. It seems he could make a very good tough course sprinter, whether or not he develops into a high quality flat sprinter.
