For me the big question is where Riis will get the money to fund the existing contracts, much less take on Basso and/or Sammy Sanchez. Unless Contador is going to give up some of his money or something? The last I read, things were still unsettled at Team Saxo, money-wise.

edit- there was some rumor about a new bike sponsor, so maybe that could be the second named sponsor and bring enough money? But I don't know if Contador's personal sponsorship deal with Specialized is due to end already?

Existing contracts are covered according to L.S.C. I think it's safe to assume he knows the situation ;)

Yeah, i also heard that rumor. I even read that guys like Sörensen doubt if the team will exist next year, due to financial problems. The news about Basso possibly explains that there is perhaps a second sponsor.

Sørensen said no such thing. All he said was he has no news, and no offer yet, and when pushed upon the subject said pay cuts [on new contracts] are possible in theory (assuming no new sponsor is found). 7th might be a day for news.

He said he would like to be a dom in GTs, so I can't see the problem.

Yes, but I'm not really sure how great he'll be as a mountain dom. Guess we'll find out.

One thing I found interesting is that only 4 riders out of the top 50 in the 2013 CQ Ranking have changed teams (Costa, Chavanel, Uran, Bakelants). Still a couple with uncertain futures: Horner and Scarponi, but very little movement amongst the top riders this year.

EDIT - Actually looking back at 2012, only 6 out of the top 50 changed teams last year - Nibali, Cavendish, Rogers, Pozzovivo, Nordhaug, Kreuziger.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Cyclingfever has Karpets confirmed as leaving Movistar. Any idea if he's going to Katusha or the rumored Tinkoff/Cannondale connection, or retiring? He hasn't done much of anything this year.

edit-
It's been a worse year than even I remembered. Karpets' CQ chart:

Speaking of dead weight... ;)

I thought Katusha already tried (and failed) with the Karpets experiment, no?

they did, but that was with the idea of him being a leader. Now he'd just be roster filler. Rusvelo is more likely, otherwise he'll wind up surfacing somewhere like Törku Seker Spor or Synergy Baku I guess.

And win Tour of Turkey in spectacular fashion, like we've seen with Gabrovski and Sayar, right?

Yeah, they should try and make him into a classics guy with a strong finish. Could see him get a San Remo win Friere style though. Poor riders don't win stages at World Tour level at 20yo, even if it's at the TDU.

Trav Meyer and Mitch Docker started out with Drapac Porsche and Will Clarke and Steele von Hoff with Praties (IIRC) I wouldn't say they're particularly successful but they are solid WT domestiques.

half the colombian team was sick or injured and the course was hardly mountainous. avenir rarely features climbs over 1500 metres, let alone 2000
Ah yes i remember that about the Colombians sorry.
Docker has some potential for the classics and is good in a leadout. Von Hoff can sprint well/ for that reason not a domestique.
And Matthews has been a pro for 3 years/ never rode a GT before this year/ won the WC RR as a 19 year old- (Helping your argument)

Yeah, lots of young talent but personally I think the biggest one of all the young Aussies isn't on their team (Dennis).

Morton could be as well.
Also Richie Porte- he's younger than Horner, so anything is possible :p

Cycling Fever confirms that Rosseler will leave Garmin and that Ben Hermans is negotiating with the Belgian Wanty team.

What's the story with Bretagne Seche, does anybody know? They are absent from the UCI list of Pro-Conti licence applicants, but they have been signing trainees (most notably Merhawi Kudus), and are said to be renewing and offering deals: their website has no update since June.

Dropping to Continental? Messed up the paperwork? Sponsor withdrawal? Or UCI oversight?

Saxo has fifteen days to find some cash and sign some riders otherwise there out of the Protour. That's some talent that might become available the problem for these guys should the worst happen is getting a contract this late.

If Saxo falls to pieces I predict alot of "career stopping injuries" on some young Kazkahs at Astana :D

DOn't have the riders they need to sign another seven before 20 October or they fall short and there probably out.

Don't have, or haven't told you about them? (it's 8 not 7 btw).

Last year Majka extended in January, but it wasn't announced until late September. Many similar examples exist of the team not announcing contracts when they are signed.

In short, you don't know.

Last time I checked you could field an entire squad for €885,500 and 8 riders could be signed for as little as €308,000.
