Isn't that exactly what Coldeportes was meant for? Training Colombian talent for the next step up?

I'm sure there is a load of new Colombian talent they can train

It's not that simple. Without any rider with great potential (except Avila), the organisers of the GT's will not directly invited them. There plan was to compete at the Tour in 2/3 years. They can forget that now with the losses of Chaves, Atapuma and Duarte

Second problem is that the team didn't pay the salaries for the past months. There are some real problemes between the Colombian government and the management of the team

Game over for Colombia-Coldeportes? With the likely transfer of Atapuma to BMC, the other big man, Johan Esteban Chaves, signed a contract with Orica-GreenEDGE for next season.

Sadly, but all indications area leading to that outcome--Corti really "fvcked up", will get sacked & that's why all the riders are jumping off the sinking boat....

what a shame...I always wanted the national team to succeed like Cafe de Colombia did in the past.....

Vino attacks everyone said:
well, he was linked to Astana a while back, but nothing new as far as I can see.

BTW; a certain old american is on my new wishlist for Astana :p

He certainly wont improve Astana tarnished reputation :D Although he should be vino's priority now!!

Pellizotti and Horner!! :D Now just wait till Ricco signs for Astana in 10 years :O :D

I have no clue in spanish politics nor history. But I noticed in formula-1 races Alonso fans is waving the flag of Asturias. Is it possible that "Team Alonso" will have jersey in these colors. Or will it still be a basque cycling team?

Edit: Didnt see the "Fernando Alonso buys Euskaltel's license"-thread. Nevermind this post

When did this color change to orange? I don't remember euskaltel in any other color. Personally, i hope alonso will leave atleast a 50% of orange in the next year's jersey.

isn't the COL team supposed to be the nurturing ground for young columbian talent?

Think the orange came in 2001/02.

duarte is also gone, chalapud, pantano and duque will leave probably too(have offers)

corti is in total panick mode. what a disaster he ran. most riders after 2 years are furious with him, especially duarte

Actually Janier is more of a rouleur than a climber, since his background is on track, but because of Colombia's terrain & Altitude, his ability to climb is inherent....

Glad he got a Pro-Team contract :)

janier is not a rouleur. he's as pure as climber as they come and he's never rode on track either

no bs. they've been working on getting him for almost entire year. doctor confirmed he's healthy enough they sign him for 3 years with possibly more riders to assist him. he's goign to be their future gt man. as I said before all of coldepotes riders of any stature are leaving and have big offers

I like him, but he's a young colombian, on an english speaking team, based in Italy. Seems an interesting choice, but by no means unprecedented. The first report saying "the team had announced", which they hadn't...however now more sources are coming out saying the same thing.
I think Orica have quite a few spaces open as I think only Goss signed for 3 years initially, most other contracts were 2. So plenty more spaces for other colombians. (Jaramillo rumoured also, do you know anything about that?) Looking forward to having Chavito on board.

Criticism for Corti is huge in Colombia but, fans are also mad at Duarte... If he's boycotting Corti, it's backfiring as well.

Yeah, it does seem a possibility. He is friendly with a number of the existing Euskatel riders and this could prove a strong motive.

It says that Contador's departure would leave Riis without a Grand Tour rider. That sounds like utter nonsense though as Roman would probably have finished 2nd at the Tour had he been TL.

Hopefully Riis will still keep Noval on, that would be a HUGE loss.

You know, even though it pains me to say it, Saxo and Uncle Bjarne are probably better off without Alberto.

I actually tend to agree, if he can get rid of say Alberto, Noval and Jesus, he might not even need a new co sponsor? Guess he might even be able to get a bit of money to let Alberto go?

He still has Roman for TDF, Majka for Giro and Roche for Vuelta (lets see how he does this year).

Yup. Plus, as we can see this Vuelta, Saxo actually performs very well without him.
