Who is OPQS picking up? They seem to have lost some decent riders.

They've lost Pauwels, Fenn, Poels, DeGendt, and Bakelants. Anyone else?

Remaining Sky riders without confirmed deals for 2015

WIGGINS Bradley
CATALDO Dario
SUTTON Chris
ROWE Luke
KNEES Christian
ZANDIO Xabier
EDMONDSON Joshua
DOMBROWSKI Joe

Dombrowski heavily linked with Garmin-Cannondale and Cataldo is reportedly on Astana's radar.

Brad's deal will involve him doing a couple of prep races for P-R, with the opportunity to wear the rainbow stripes at least once, I'm sure, and then ******ing off to smash the hour record and the Aussies on the track.

Rowe stays. They need a British core and with Brad disappearing and Edmondson likely too, no way they let Rowe go. Besides, he's a solid domestique.

Dombrowski and Sutton are out, surely, Zandio probably also, Cataldo maybe. Can't believe they wouldn't want Knees - he's quality - but if there's 5 in already and 2 more coming, he must be the seventh leaving, assuming Brad's classed as one of those.

I think they made all their signings early on.

To be honest all those above riders are good but didn't get a decent chance at OPQS.

no one, as far as I know

the plan was to have 27 riders, so those 26 listed on PCS + Trentin, that's it then

They only have 27 right now, add the new 5 and they only need to get rid of two. EBH is gone, and Dombro is all but confirmed to Garmin.

Who?

The Dumoulin thing is not even a rumour ffs they only said he's an ideal rider they want. He has a contract so he'll only be available next year..

Viviani has a deal with Cannondale as well.

Nobody is sure who. The "two more" thing apparently came from Brailsford in a Sky Sports interview.

to be honest, Knees is no one I would pay an awful lot of money for. Knees has been Milram's leader in every single race for years, he even was their gc rider for the Tour, and has done exactly nothing. He is a fantastic domestique - but that's not exactly what a team like Bora needs.

He was surprisingly good in 2008-2009 or so. But that was then.

I suppose it depends on how much he is asking

For Bora, I would try and target Zepuntke.

I think the deal with the Cannondale riders was that Vaughters would honour the contracts, but they were free to go elsewhere if they wanted. JV would have had words with the ones he really wanted, no doubt. I don't think many have been confirmed.

And agreed on Dumoulin - that just comes from Wiggins messing about at the Worlds presser.

Giro- Porte, Konig co-leadership.
Tour- Froome leader; Porte, Nieve, Henao, Kennaugh as domestiques.
Vuelta-Roche maybe for GC leader or someone like Konig or Henao if they have the form. Vuelta can serve as a whoever's left and whoever has the form are free to take their own chances kinda race.

Some of the guys aren't really suited for a GC leadership role at a GT, Kennaugh's not there yet, Nieve was signed to be a domestique, Poels not there yet. Vuelta should be most of these guys's opportunity to go for stages or GC if they think they can. Don't think anyone would be too disappointed in serving those roles *coughexceptRochecough*.

IMO no Giro for Konig.

Konig to lead SKY in California > Help Froome in TDF > back to US as leader in Colorado & Utah > Hunt stages or GC in Vuelta

I think just Dombro leaving, I don't expect anyone else to sign.

Pretty sure one other rider must leave (in addition to Dombrowski and EBH) because you're only allowed 30 riders provided that two of them are neo-pros. One of those is Sebastian Henao (second year still counts) but I think Nathan Earle (26) is too old to be credited as a neo-pro under these rules. The rider must be 25 or under I believe.

Ian Boswell is in the third year of a neo pro deal.

the rules say

Art. 7
1. The status of new professional is given to any rider who joins a UCI ProTeam or Professional Continental Team for the
first time no later than during his twenty-fifth year.
For the application of this article the date of joining shall be the date on which the rider’s contract comes into force.

The age of the rider is determined by the difference between the year of his hiring and the year of his birth.

[...]

During this period the rider shall retain the status of new professional even if:
a. The rider reaches the age of 26 during this period;

no idea what "during his twenty-fifth year" is supposed to mean though. Sounds like you have to be 24 - but the 2nd part of that quote speaks against that. So I guess Earle is a neo-pro and therefor has a two year deal

That'd be a good schedule too. Would have a good chance to win California and Sky might want to defend their victory from this year.

Rowe definitely has a contract with Sky for next year. He signed a 2 year extension last year.

Brailsford was just on SSN - he said negotiations are at an advanced stage with an additional two riders

Daniel McLay (young British rider) is a possibility. Or maybe one of those young Noggies.

I doubt they're as desperate to poach him as they were with Wiggins. And I doubt Dumoulin is as desperate to leave.

He isn't desperate, but he has expressed his unhappines about the lack of support he has at Giant. He has lost some big wins/placings due to that. So far they haven't done anything to improve the support for Dumoulin (and Degenkolb as well).

All the big teams will want to sign him when his contract is up at the end of 2015, important choice for him to make next year.

Interesting thanks. I took it to mean that Earle doesn't qualify as a neo-pro because he joined Sky during his 26th year (had already turned 25 at the time his contract started).

It probably won't matter though because I'm fairly certain one of the other 2 new signings will be a neo-pro.

What sort of rider is McLay? Seems like he can sprint a bit but isn't a sprinter and can TT a bit but isn't a time triallist? Northern classics type?

I don't think I've ever seen him race (which isn't surprising given that he's on Lotto u23 team).

Yes. A bit of a Luke Rowe type I reckon.
