That's where I'm confused about what Alonso's going to do here. Is he going to have to sign a bunch of cheap riders? Not sure if there are any available top riders that are guaranteed to bring in some good results in the WT.

Are there any Schleck rumors going round.

Frank to Alonso maybe (a possibility, nothing confirmed as true or untrue), haven't head anything on Andy.

There's actually a few GT winners who to my knowledge haven't signed a contract yet for next year. Cobo, Horner, Cunego, Schleck, Wiggins, Scarponi oh and Valverde. :p

Add the illustrious Rujano and Samu and you have 9 riders that will form quite a GT team.

Every one of them either really old, in decline, or pretty much done for. Then again, riders have often moved teams and had a resurgence in their careers, maybe Alonso's gambling he will be able to do this better then any team. It would be a hilarious WT team though. :D

I don't think we need to be afraid for that. colombia coldeportes and corti have a horrible reputation in colombian cycling. they have a hard time getting any riders. the only thing they do well is pay

The thing i wondered, is that you were really enthousiastic about Lopez his perfomance in L'Avenir.

Do you think he can make a impact in Colombia as well? Or is it a same story as Ospina, with the clinical thing?

Add König for whom they would work and delete somebody useless.

No need to rush things if the intention is to have a good team on the long term. No need to get second tier riders who see themselves as leaders, overpay them, and be stuck with them.

Any news on Matteo Trentin? I can't seem to find anything. He is out of contract at the end of the year and a very versatile rider (sprinting, cobbles and gets over hills fairly well). In most teams he could get a free role or captain at minor races. At OPQS most of the time he has to work as a domestique and still managed two stage wins at the Tour.

yes. he's going to astana next year. not a good team for him I think. he comes from rafael acevedo so we have to find out how talented he really is though.... and he must e held on a short leesh

Damn

Agreed- Astana is already jammed with plenty of good riders, so that environment won't allow him to grow with many opportunities -he'll be squeezed up to the last drop of sweat.....

believe it or not- I rather see him accompanying Chavito at Orica

Believe it or not I'd love too see a young climbing talent at Giant :) They can shine at the Giro or the Vuelta early despite most of their team mates busy looking after the sprint diva. If they want a spot at the Tour they can move team later. This team have some good things for young talents anyway it seems. Another former Avenir winner is doing quite well with them. And they yet to have a Colombian when everyone else does...

Indeed - I don't see why not too, but will they have the vision for it? It seems to me that Giant has settled to become Highroad 2.0 without further ambitions to achieve victories in week long races, for instance, where a man well nurtured like Lopez can deliver results, instead of depending heavily on Kittel & Degenkolb to carry the team...

Lopez and Barguil could be a good combo....

Well, they have Dumoulin who I'm sure will win a few one week races in a few years

yeah I don't believe they send a doped rider to avenir. too much at stake. so that must've been something at least but to be sure we have to wait

Bos to MTN is now confirmed on MTN's site. I know he's not the most popular guy around, but he does win a few races each year.

Don't know about the broader popularity issues, but I quite like Bos. Should get a couple of wins for MTN. Nothing big, but the occasional bunch sprint win also count.

Maybe not as a dedicated climbing squad, but they always manage to sneak one or two climbers into Giro and Vuelta squad, and at least one of them are visible in the mountains. It might be good enough for some youngsters to show off and gain confidence and experience (compared to being slaved or invisible in some climbing-oriented teams), I don't see them going for established climbers though, it would look plain wrong for either parties:p.

How is their activity in the market actually? Offloading Janse v. Rensburg is all I know.

Yeah, he'll make sure they completely dominate some smaller races like Langkawi where he can win bunch sprints while guys like Kudus and Meintjens go for GC. Might be a good opportunity to make their sprint train a bit better instead of the Sbaragli helping Ciolek or other way round thing. So they can learn how to help Bos in the flat (although I know his positioning is horrible often) and by that learn how to support guys like Ciolek better.
