If true, then this is a fantastic signing! Purito looks like he may be on the out and not likely to win GT (plus will probably focus on Giro-Vuelta until retirement anyway).

Great opportunity for him to get full leadership in his races of choice and for Katusha to get a new GC rider.

Katusha survived last years because of Purito. It was more FC Purito then it was Katusha.

So full leadership in his races of choice will be relative. Because Purito is still a level above König. Good rider, but still not a top class rider.

But given the fact Purito will not be interested in the Tour anymore, König is a good leader for that race.

And as Germany seems to be getting some live coverage for the Tour again next year ASO will surely get a German team into the Tour.

Estrada to Ag2r? I hope not. He's shown pretty much nothing the whole year.

what are you talking about. estrada has been one of the strongest in cahmbery that despite being first year u23 and first year europe

I would say that there is probably a big difference in budgets between Netapp and MTN.

It certainly seems so for next year, looking at the respective signings.

Net App:
Nerz

MTN:
Boasson Hagen
Farrar
Bos
Janse Van Rensburg

Plus MTN claim four more WT riders, probably including Goss and Cummings. While at the same time Net App lose all but Bennett and Barta of their existing leaders. Two teams that were on a similar sort of level in performance terms look like they are heading sharply in opposite directions.

Any WT team can give two guys a busy calendar as leader as long as they aren't squabbling over the Tour. Purito and Konig strike me as having different emphases anyway - Konig seems more like a rider for the week long races than for the classics.

You are of course right that Purito is a level above.

Right now MTN has a much stronger roster for 2015. What can Team Bora offer? Nerz and S.Bennett as leaders? Not enough to get a wild card again

No sure, they can be leader in different races.

But it was more the question that König is free to be leader in the races he wants. I think König will be the leader in the races Purito will not be there, or isn't interested in.

No, the strongest riders in Chambéry have been Latour, Denz, Bidard, le Lavandier, Peters. Estrada was barely visible at all. Just have a look on Estrada's impressive 2014 palmares.

Far more impressive: Daniel Martinez, who won elite races as junior rider who just came to Europe.

By the time Purito is done and getting ready to retire Konig will probably have developed enough to become a more key rider as opposed to a young rider in development.

As long as his focus remains the Tour I don't think they'll have too much conflict of interest as Purito will focus on Giro-Vuelta and the warm up races to those, while Konig will focus on Tour and it's warm up races.

Because apart from Barta inevitably taking his national ITT championships, nobody else on the team is likely to do very much.

This year König would probably win it if not for mechanical. Nothing sure about that I fear.

For sure MTN have a bigger budget but Nerz could beat all of those guys in the mountains, - I think having a small squad and no giant marque names helps Netapp a lot more.

I've done some research on Netapp and they have become my new favourite team for a while, bunching well above there weight in my opinion.

Theo Bos on signing for MTN

""The team races for a cause that is more than just winning races and that is Qhubeka, a social initiative where they aim to put children in Africa on bicycles. I really like this human element to the team. I hope I will be able to bring a fan base with me to the team that will bring new support to the Qhubeka initiative. "
—Theo Bos

Certainly beats riding for a Dutch National bank Theo:D
