3 Neopros for Etixx in 2017:

- Enric Mas: Spanish climber, won the Tour de Savoie & the Tour d'Alentejo and was 2nd in the Giro Ciclistico della Valle d'Aosta last week.
- Maximilian Schachmann: Time trialist and decent climber, won last week on the Piani di Tavagnasco.
- Remi Cavagna: great time trialist & pretty fast.

Great news for the Spanish peloton amidst it's great crisis of teams and the retirement of their golden stars.

We have a good generation born in years 1993 and 1995, the key is to be able to pass them all to good WT teams that provide them a position to shine at the maximum level.

I'm talking about Benito, Soler, Rosón, Cortina, Mas, Estévez, Cuadros etc.

Sondre Holst Enger to AG2R is also a rumour.

Here's an article about this rumour http://www.nettavisen.no/sport/sykling/holst-enger-aktuell-for-ag2r/3423244739.html apparently it's between Dimension Data and AG2r
He's definitely not going to DD. They want a Norwegian and the media randomly speculated that it would be Enger, but that won't happen as it's Edvald who gets to choose who they recruit. My guess would be Stake Laengen, Vegard Breen or perhaps even Tobias Foss.

Narvaez should get more of a chance as the leader with these three going pro, surely?

Breen isn't WT worthy, Foss is too young imo.
Stake Laengen is a good guess!

Yes, together with Lambrecht maybe cause Klein Constantia wants him. But apparently he chooses BMC over Constantia if he leaves Lotto Soudal.

Holst Enger himself told that Dimension Data was very likely to be his next team to some people wanting him to sign autographs before a TDF stage. It might have changed but to claim "he's definitely not going to DD" is short in my opinion

Dirk

You dont have to worry about Ewan riding the TDF. It will be 2018 at the earliest.

Van Marcke is a target because he is damn fine rider. Lots of Spanish and some Italian is spoken at OBE.

Holst Enger will be best suited at FDJ

In an interview for Czech web Idnes Oleg confirmed Sagan is going to Bora, where he's going to get 6 millions (and mentioned he "only" paid him 4.5 millions). He also confirmed Team Tinkoff really folds after this season.

Sep Van Marcke is going to Etixx - in negotiation according to Cyclingfever.

Hopefully, by the time 2018 TDF rolls around, Ewan will have been completely exposed as a complete waste of resources and be on the out queue at OBE.

No disputing Vanmarcke is a damned fine rider but neither do I see him as a magic bullet solution that will see them as front line contenders at each and every cobbled race. Signing him might also see Durbridge thinking "time for me to hit the road".

The language issue is neither here nor there. Many of their riders will have multi-lingual facility but the main language of communication at OBE is English. Not an issue for those from the low countries or Scandinavians in any case; from what little I know Plaza & Tzurruka have some familiarity and Chaves is increasingly familiar albeit having Aussies as his language tutors .... swearwords are quite prominent in that vocab !

It also says that Specialized will cover part of Sagan's salary in Bora.

Vanmarcke to Etixx is a terrible, terrible move. Vanmarcke is a Roubaix specialist; he's come close to winning ti repeatedly, and his skill set fits it perfectly. The one rider that Etixx do not need right now is a Roubaix specialist, because Terpstra and Stybar are both actual/potential winners of that race (as arguably is Lampaert). In fact, Roubaix is probably the only cobbled classic either of them have a real shot at. The problem Etixx have is that they don't have a single rider who looks capable of winning the punchy races like Flanders and E3, and I doubt Gilbert will be competitive in those. Vanmarcke should go to Lotto, to my mind. Benoot's too young for the responsibility of leadership and I doubt he'll win Roubaix anyway, Roelandts is brilliant but not really a Monument winner, and Debusschere is a good weapon to have in a sprint but shouldn't be given the whole team's backing. Bad idea.

I know part of Sagan's big paycheck comes from his popularity (in part due to his big personality, charisma and funny antics), but €6.000.000 is a lot for what he has achieved since 2013. That's probably double what Nibali earns and since 2013 he won the Giro twice, The Tour once and also a Monument in Lombardia.

And it's funny how Liquigas/Cannondale held back both Nibali and Sagan. They started getting their best results after they left them.

So Etixx is gonna sign Vanmarcke, Gilbert and another climber. Am I the only one who doesn't believe the team has a budget of only 18M?

Lefevere says he was surprised by how low Gilbert's salary demands were. He wants to work on a bonus system, where he gets paid bonuses if he manages to win big races.

Great move for Vanmarcke personally, not a great move for Classsics fans. He's the typical underdog who makes a race great by slogging his guts out and taking on the world - doubt he'll do that any more at Etixx. On the other hand, he'll probably finally win something of note - which is what his talent deserves.

It will be hard for him to win a classic against Degenkolb, Kristoff and especially Sagan. Same goes for GVA. Everything went his way in Paris-Roubaix this year and he still lost... Maybe QS can take him to the next level with better training programs and better diet... They seem much better organized than LottoNl.
