Migels and Leclercq say Tinkoff wanted to go on and build the team around Sagan and Majka. But Sagan goz a bigger offer from Bora and uses his exemption.

Any truth in this rumor?
No truth in it. Sagan had a valid contract until 2017, and his Slovak friends in the team as well. If Oleg wanted to go on, Sagan would have to stay in his team.

And sue the docs too for botched surgery. Poor guy.

Not sure what contry u live in but u can't legally in the UK, so doubt u can where ever he was treated.

Also he would have to prove they made a mistake.

Of course you can, my brother-in-law makes a very nice living representing doctors in the UK in such cases.

Yes, you can indeed sue doctors for medical negligence in the UK, but under all of the variants of British law and also under most similar common law systems, including for instance Ireland, it is extremely difficult to actually win. The underlying logic is that medical professionals have to make decisions about people's lives and health continuously, that inevitably sometimes a wrong call will be made, and if patients could recover damages every time a judgment call turned out to be incorrect it would be impossible for anyone to practice medicine. To recover against a medical professional or hospital, a great deal more has to have gone wrong than surgery not producing the hoped for outcome.

Lefevre confirms that Boonen stays at Etixx. Will retire after Roubaix 2017, as per Vive le Velo right now.

+ That Vanmarcke, Gilbert & Boonen in one team is still possible.

I simply cannot understand why Gilbert would sign for a team which had not one but two riders ahead of him in the Ardennes pecking order and not one but two, or even more, ahead of him in cobbled pecking order. And I don't know why a team with Vanmarcke, Boonen, Alaphillipe, Martin etc would want him. He'd be the most expensive bottle fetcher in the peloton. It is the team in the whole peloton least appropriate for him.

Would I be right in saying that the negligence has to be rather more severe than with other professions?

Yes, for all practical purposes.

If you have something wrong with your leg and you undergo surgery that's expected to fix the problem 9 times out of 10 and it doesn't fix the problem, you aren't going to successfully recover against the doctor. If on the other hand you have to have a leg amputated and after undergoing surgery you wake up to find that the doctor has taken the wrong leg off...

Lefevre said Gilbert himself asks a very low salary with (high) prize money depending on results, so that's a win-win situation for them.

Results of himself or from the team? probably his own results so that will probably mean he will not do much for the team (just like with GvA) so that is not a win-win.

I don't know, maybe both. But what should he do for the team then, and for who?

If he wins, he's worth the money, if he doesn't, it's hardly a bad investment because of his low salary demands and the exposure (he's still pretty huge in Belgium) he brings to the team.

There are better hilly classics riders than present day Gilbert on the team already. There are better cobbled riders than the present day Gilbert on the team already. He could be a useful domestique. But if his pay depends on his own results, he's being paid to ride against those stronger riders rather than sacrifice himself for them. I wouldn't be very happy about that if I was one of those stronger riders.

Well, he'll likely get a bonus if he's an important asset in a big team win too. Lefevre ain't dumb of course.

Gilbert is still a big name. Don't underestimate the positive effect a guy like him can have on the team. Like Boonen does, he can bring peace into the team and take the pressure away from other riders because the spotlights will be on him.

Besides, he's back in really good shape and should definitely not domestique just like that. It's not like Ala or Martin bring certain wins.

Impey goes off-contract at OBE at the end of this year. Whilst he's very highly valued by the team and has been very happy there; one cannot help thinking that his "team MVP" performances at this tour will not have gone unnoticed by other teams.

I have my doubts that he'll be moving on but at the very least, he should be in line for a very well deserved pay rise.

You have half the team leaving OBE. My understanding is Imply will stay at OBE. And he's had a super year.
