I would not touch ARU for 3million. This tour will show his value. I would sign Chaves for 2million. Or Superman Lopez for 1.5million. Formilo would be an interesting signing he has to improve the TT.

Chaves is off the market until end of 2018. What happens then will be interesting. Much may depend on (1) whether a new title sponsor has been found to replace Orica and (2) whether he has been able to at least consolidate his status as a podium contender. Is very much at home where he is .... and has been able to galvanise a team around him ... but he will most certainly attract significant market interest and whether his existing team can/will be able to compete on the $$$ front will be pivotal.

If Aru performs at the Tour he strikes his deal with Astana. Especially since they offer him all facilities he needs as a leader and great support with additions like Hirt as well. Once he fails again he might be happy to sign for whatever paycheck any team offers him as a leader.

Oh, and if it's Trek he signs for he's their no 1 rider. So Contador ain't gonna ride the Giro unless he becomes the super-domestique of Aru!

UAE ain't got enough support, neither they're able to prepare a gc contender. He won't sign for them IMHO. Unless it's all about the money.

Big news in Gazzetta today. Allegedly, Viviani will ride for UAE from August this year. Not confirmed.

Nobody in his right mind would get Aru as he is now for 2 mill. Wanting 3 is insane.

Was it? He would've stand zero chance against Gav IMHO. That he races for UAE from this fall on already is a good solution for all parties.

In fairness Viviani has beaten Gaviria before on the track, and knowing his self-confidence he probably has no doubts he can replicate it on the road. But in hindsight with the Thomas and Lands crash, it was definitely a mistake.

Plus there is no point of keeping leightweights like Viviani in a GC team. The guy literallly offers zero help to anyone

They could've won that with Viviani, though. Viviani was omitted because they wanted to target GC, not so that Landa could get in the break and be the KOM.

Viviani has a better chance of winning the mountain jersey than a points one

sky again with "I have no idea what to do with a sprinter." Not sure why Viviani signed with Sky in the first place other than might be a chance to ride track in the olympics? Sky really wasted his talent. They left him behind on the 100th year Giro, then TDF. I'm sure they won't take him for Vuelta either. If Froome wins TDF, he wants all the support he can get to win the double.

Zero chance? He has beat him before. Ewan didn't put up much of a fight either but still won a stage. So did Greipel.
Did the other guys on the team really offer that much? Would Elissonde have been that important to a possible podium for Thomas? Golas? Henao? Puccio?

Probably best solution for every party, yes.

The piece on here, said he probably won't ride for Sky again. I read also that he signed with Sky because they were the only team or 1 of a small number that would allow him to ride track, most other teams wanted him to focus on the road.

Tanner to Verandas-Willems-Crelan

David Tanner you mean I suppose?

PCS mentions he was without a team, nice addition for Veranda's Willems, I always found their team a bit small in numbers for a PCT...

I just looked at their H2H and no, he hasn't beaten Gav before. Not even once.

On the track, last year. And other times actually. It isn't the same, but it's the only time they've both raced each other at their peak. Gaviria would still beat Viviani without too much trouble, but Viviani could've pulled off a stage won here or there.

Gaviria was nowhere near his peak at olympics, you could see that from his sprint and pursuit results (freaking Cav caught him in pursuit!!). I don't really see where Viviani could have won a stage in this Giro, he's pretty bad at positioning and that's why he rarely wins.
