So I guess that this means le coq will go to Pineaus new team?
This will be settled.

France, with likely eight pro teams in 2018 (AG2R, FDJ, Direct Energie, Cofidis, Fortuneo-Oscaro, Vital Concept, Marseille-KTM, Armée de Terre) is too much.

Really? Barguil goes to Fortuneo? The team whose biggest star right now is 32 year old Brice Feillu who won his last race in 2009? I mean I guess he will have a free role there but is this really the best option for him? Or did I maybe miss something and this team will get a way larger budget for next season?

That was the plan at the start of the year, and they're having a super season

Maybe they signed him because their biggest star is a 32-year-old who who his last race in 2009. Seems like they need someone for the future...
As for how good an option it is for him; he'll be the undisputed leader, seems pretty good to me.

And not being 2nd fiddle to Major Tom in Le Tour...

Yes..If Barguil stayed at Sunweb he would have to ride as domestique for Doumlin in Tour 2018 ...now he has free reign to ride for stages and KOM and is probably paid better

Plus the team will get invites to all the major WT french races now..which Barguil will not mind being confined to .... so.I 'd say its a win win situation

Even before finishing this years Tour he talked again about his GC ambitions for the future. I agree for three more years of chasing stage wins and polka dots the move is fine, but I'm pretty sure Barguil is (or was?) aiming for more. Next year he will already lose minutes with this TTT.

You guys seem to forget that he won't have any decent teammate gcwise? But that's surely an amazing deal for this small PCT team. Well done for them.

Unavoidable transfer for Barguil. I think he already made up his mind after Dumoulin won the Giro. He'll be nothing than a supreme mountain domestique for Dumoulin in the Tour if he would have stayed. Now he can still go for mountain stages and a good GC at another team. Good choice from him.

If you speak about Coquard I read in Nieuwsblad that he seems to go to Quick Step and not to Pineau or Lotto Soudal

Fairly logical decision imo. Barguil doesnt fit in the structure Sunweb is building the next years, with Big Tom as their only GC guy. He wants freedom to do what he did in this year's Tour: riding an attacking race and not being forced into a role of riding a GC or work for a team leader.

He want's to ride in a French team too.

Great decision by Barguil, its also good to have a few relevant wildcard teams.
I agree completely. It's great for cycling to have genuine leaders in lesser teams as well. A few more like Mosquera, Visconti, Del Olmo, Soler, Scarponi or Garzelli are needed to make races more interesting.

Can someone explain the purpose the Pineau team? What do they offer that Fortuneo couldn't?

Apparently it's a long term project for a new french WT team.

And Fortuneo wants to grow (read become WT) as well....
