I don’t think the assumption is that he didn’t know, so much as it is that he probably isn’t overjoyed to find himself at least on the face of it contracted to a team with neither the intention of letting him leave early nor the need for transfer fee money

Why have people assumed Van Aert didn't already know?

As Zinoviev said, it's not really about whether he knew about that early, it's more about whether he's happy or not. And a press release with no word from Van Aert, no reactions on the social media, the fact Aqua Blue has now deleted its tweet... + the fact the relationships between Nuyens and VanAert are said to be bad : everything makes that thing suscpicious

Debusschere and Demol (as a DS) to Katusha confirmed (by Debusschere himself)

A danish climber who Im sure others know more about that me is going to Jumbo. Vingegaard is a 21 year old super skinny climber with a pretty great Vo2 max. You might think 'dah', you need that in order to be a cyclist at this level and you are probably right, but I just thought it maybe was relevant.. or something. At least some experts have said he was pretty exceptional in that aspect which most likely will transition to great w/kg.

I don't care much for his tests (mostly because I don't know much about those), but he's good. Been pretty unlucky, but good when he is injury-free. He got his "breakthrough" in Denmark when he was still a A-rider and won a random race in "Pinsecuppen" ahead of pros like Breschel and Norman and all the Danish continental teams. And when coloquick had some injuries they decided to sign him midseason. They've been hyping him ever since, like in this article (Danish).

Earlier this year they had a camp near Calpe and decided to go for the KOM at Coll de Rates which belonged to Tejay van Garderen. They managed to beat the time, which can be seen in this article (Danish, but there is a video). Tejay van Garderen later confirmed this on Instagram, but as far as I can see, the time has been erased on Strava again.

He had personal ambitions (I seem to recall - can't find the source now.. not 100 % sure) at Giro Valle d'Aosta and Tour de l'Avenir last year, but then he broke his thighbone. Niklas Eg did pretty decent though, but think Jonas could have been up there aswell. Jonas got his shot at Giro Valle d'Aosta this year, when he won the mountain prologue, but then he crashed out of the race on the following stage. He was supposed to race Tour of Denmark, but because of this crash he missed the race.. don't really think they would jeopardize Tour de l'Avenir.

Done some nice results though, like 2nd on Tour of China and so on in smaller races, but injuries have kept him from really build a nice palmares in these ranks. Also, he's a climber, and if you miss races like Giro Valle d'Aosta and Tour de l'Avenir, it can be difficult to produce results as a young Dane, as the Danish continental teams not necessarily participates in mountain stage races.

He comes from the same cycling club as Michael Valgren, which he revealed on Twitter. (who also adds that he won a time trial on Alpe d'Huez for amateurs..)

I'm not saying he's gonna be the next superstar like Roglic. But he seems to have potential to at least be a decent WorldTour-rider, and if he can keep his development, LottoNL seems to have found another quite good climber for their team. How good? I simply don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if he does produce good results.

He did - after all - beat Egan Bernal on a mountain time trial back in Sibiu two years ago, when they both were 19 ;)

If this means WvA will have to ride on those 3T bikes I can see him just refusing to ride. He complained about the Felt cross- and roadbikes already and I doubt that brand has any good CycloXbikes. I truly hope they'll continue to ride Stevens-bikes. They're a good brand and up untill now in Belgium they were mostly seen as a supermarket brand. A bit like the Belgium Diamondback.

^ Well, I'd be somewhat surprised if any team suddenly started riding Lidl bikes.
Especially considering the fact that I've never once seen a bike those times I've been shopping at Lidl.
Quickstep wearing Crivit cycling gear, sold at Lidl, could be a possibility.

Greipel to Fortuneo-Samsic. Who will be in the sprint train?

In recent time it is more about being in a good position before the sprint. Than having a train per se. I think we seen it has been more of chaotic, every man for himself, type sprints.

Greipel will pick up some wins on the french calendar.

A safety alternative when climbers cannot delivery. With this guy, win is inevitable (at lease, 1.1 races.)

Yeah, we're talking about a team that has not won a single race so far in 2018. This is a real coup for them.

Both Jumbo and Lidl also have that problem that they're seen as supermarket brands.....

Oké yeah, I've ridden on one but no self-respecting cyclist would dare show up at his sunday ride with one of those because of their reputation. That's what I meant. :D Try and show up with a Skoda, Lidl or B'Twin bike at your next club ride and you'll get what I mean.

Christophe Moreau won the Dauphiné on a B'Twin, but would be laughed out of your club for it?

I certainly wouldn't want anything to do with such a club.

Me neither. Far too much bike and other snobbery going on in some bike clubs. The club I belong to has riders riding on all sorts of bikes and no one laughs at anyone for what they ride. The members are more than happy that people just want to join the club and enjoy themselves.

Agreed. The B'twin Ultra 920 AF is still a great deal and has been so for years.

On a more on-topic note: what are the latest rumours about Kittel? It looked like a good internal fight during the TDF...

B-Twin is just the name given to a range of bikes bought by Decathlon anywhere in the world and sold to their customers (at cheap price, but perhaps with a good margin) ....

people in a cycling club (and I am talking about the adults) will for sure be more differentiating than you suggest ... if they know the guy riding a supermarket bike is short on cash and therefore can't afford the newest Pinarello Dogma model, they will for sure not laugh at him - if the guy just appears to be stingy it might be another story ...

Kittle made a statement that he is staying put.
