The most intriguing aspect of this whole transfer is that Rodriguez is not that obvious a super talent that is going to set the world on fire. I really don't get what Ineos sees in him. Sure, he was dominating the Spanish junior scene this year, but on an international level he is not among the most successful junior riders of his generation. Firstcycling ranks him on a good, but not very exciting 21st place in 2019. That being said, Spain has a tradition of being bad on an international junior level so Rodriguez stands out. But it remains a very strange transfer.

He must have some connections somehow, it doesn't make any sense otherwise.

I know eh, how dare they secure a young mans future, the sheer nerve this team has...what a slap in the face this has been to all true cycling fans
We'll speak again in 2023, let's see how they "secured his future" at that point.

Of course his ranking is crap, the Spanish national team barely ride the biggest races. His World Championship was much, much better than a 24th place indicates as well. 6 riders made the Simmons group, he was one of them. The kid has the talent to be a very, very good pro. Whether he will reach his potential remains to be seen, because going straight to the pro's is not a good move.

It's quite surprising that junior riders have pro agents nowadays.
It’s really not. If your kid is 17-18 years old and pro sports scouts come sniffing round, you agent-up pretty quick, because you can bet the professional sporting organizations that are talking to you have their own interests at heart, not those of the child athlete.

Teenagers have had agents in soccer, tennis, swimming etc and loads of other sports where competitors tend to peak a lot younger than cycling (which has historically been mid-late 20s) so it shouldn’t be any surprise that once a few teen cyclists start to come through that the Jerry Maguires are out in force to represent them.

Unless of course they are in the US and want to go to college on a sports scholarship. Having an agent automatically disqualifies you from collegiate sports participation.

As we expected, Rodriguez and Rivera confirmed.

4 spots left - Dennis, Amador, Boswell, Politt

Maybe Dowsett & Kennaugh make a surprising return?
Pollitt is not going to INEOS. Kennaugh is retired.

I bet on Dennis and Amador (wasn't Basso extending as well?). I don't think neither Boswell nor Dowsett will be returning to Sky.
