I really don't see why Carapaz would go to Ineos unless it's just a money thing which I assume it is. You just won a GT at Movistar which is losing Nairo and possibly Landa to go to a team with Froome, Thomas, Bernal, and rising talents in Sivakov, and Sosa. Ok, yeah Froome could be done as a GT contender but we don't know that yet.

Likely money. Reports were Ineos was offering 2 to 3 times what Movistar could afford to offer him.

It's annoying from a fans perspective, especially as I do think the would get leadership at some GTs. When you are talking the difference you quoted it is understandable though. Richie Carapoels.....

Sivakov and Sosa are helpers for now in GTs. Unless someone crashes, that was supposed to be the leader, right before the race and nobody else replace them as a leader. Which happened this year.

Froome, will he able to get back to his previous level? Or back at all. Who knows.

Thomas will be 34 next year. Does he have 1-2 years left before a looming decline/retirement? Who knows.

If Carapaz stays at Movistar. He will have Landa (?), Fuglsang (?) and Mas (?) or maybe some other rider we dont know about yet. Not to mention Valverde. They will surely send 2-3 of these riders to the same race in some combination.

Movistar and Ineos dont seem that different from that perspective.

I would have prefered if he stayed though, but that is looking unlikely now after the latest news.

I agree. If Thomas won't win this year TdF he could return to domestique role in 2020. Bernal will be main leader for TdF, Carapaz will have Giro and a Vuelta but will earn 2x or 3x more than now. It's hard to say what Froome can do in 2020 but if he will be competitive he definitely choose TdF.

So do you really think if Thomas finishes 2nd they would punt him back to domestique?

I hate Carapaz going to Ineos and Dumoulin going to LJ
Now we will have 2 suoer teams but other teams are decimated ...

Id rather a more level playing field but LJ are doing what everyone on here were complaining about from Ineos...its all about the money
Remember Atana used to have Nibali, Landa, Aru & Fuglsang .....so who will they have now ??
Sunweb have no GC rider either
And Movistar ? Mas is no replacement for Landa, Quintana & Carapaz
UAE and Direct Energie ??

There needs to be budget caps

Plus JA ..who in his team going to get to support him in the mountains
or will he be off to Ineos ??

Landa isn't confirme to be leaving and Mas has been sick so we don't know what he's capable of, but he was climbing better than Nairo at the Vuelta and through the Tourmalet. Fuglsang for Carapaz advantage Ineos.

Totally agree with this. I also think that cap needs to be at between 20 and 25 million. That allows for some growth but is still over the budgets of almost all the teams.

I don't agree. I think the two situations are vastly different but I figure he's leaving for more money anyway which I can't begrudge him.

Mas was not great at Suisse and climbing better than Quintana is hardly an endorsement at the moment ...

Mas is no Landa or Carapaz or Quintana (2013- 2017)

So what's your point? You don't like Mas why? He's a young rider and could develop nicely. Neither Landa or Carapaz had his palmares at their age.

Mas is also 23-24 years old. Carapaz is 26 (I think) and Landa is 29.

Knox 2 more years with Deceuninck.

How is he doing this year? 8th at UAE Tour and 14th Romandie but I haven't noticed him much. Didn't seem like an obvious fit when I first saw the signing.

Well, he did not really race for himself other than UAE, because he had to support Enric Mas in Romandie and Catalunya. At the Giro he was supposed to help Jungels but Knox crashed and Jungels underperformed. So he was one of the very few mountain domestiques that Quickstep had. Not really his fault his leaders underperformed in every race he was a part of in 2019.

If Dumoulin signs with Jumbo, it might become the most of a superteam of any teams in the last decade.

WIth Roglic, Dumoulin and Kruijswijk, their stage-race potential will be enormous but possibly matched by some other teams in recent years. What's unprecedented here is combining that stage race potential with top sprinters and classics specialists.
2012 Sky comes close with Wiggins, Froome, Uran and Cavendish but I feel like they didn't have a match for Van Aert in the classics.

The winner of the u23 Giro Ardila has signed with UAE.

Not a huge surprise, Matxin was hanging out with him durning the race.
UAE are building a strong, rather young team. Pogi, Philipsen, Gaviria, Ardila and Covi (both of them are turning pro with them) and apparently they are talking with McNulty, they already wanted to sign him last year.

Poels, De La Cruz and Rosa all to leave Ineos this year.

To be replaced by Carapaz, Benoot and Chaves.

The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Why are Ineos going so South American? A market Ineos want to crack?

Chaves?

Wonder what happened to Rosa there. He looked like he could be a real hilly classics and shorter stage races guy and since he left Astana it's just Coppi e Bartali and nothing..

Esteban Chaves. No longer a GT leader and wants to domestique for fellow Colombians/Spanish speakers. I think he could be a good mentor for Bernal/Sosa/Narvaez etc.

It’s just not worked out for Rosa at Sky/Ineos. He had some promising one day results (mainly in Italy) in 2015/16 but never built on that. I guess they tried to turn him into a GT rider but it didn’t work.

Ineos need to be winning some Classics next season with Benoot, Van Baarle, Rowe, Moscon, Kwiatkowski, Halvorsen, Stannard

Because those South Americans all share the same agent, who places all his riders with Sky/Ineos because of the financial windfall, and who Sky/Ineos like and trust because he's good at scouting South American talent.

Surprised no rumours linking Orluís Aular with anybody in Europe yet. He's had a stellar year, he's good in small bunches and capable in a larger sprint in weaker fields, he's a good TTer and although he's done less of it this last year or two, he was originally a climber when he started getting some results at 18-19 or so.

Problem is they don't work at least in the 3 major sports leagues in the US

NFL has a hard cap and appears to work well there. NBA has a soft cap which means they can go well over the cap and just pay a fine. The NHL....well the NHL has a strange one that doesn't work because people don't really understand.

NRL (Rugby League) in Australia has a team based salary cap since 1990. Works fine, is supported by the overwhelming majority of fans and results in a more even competition, more fans, more advertising, higher television ratings and higher pay TV revenue overall.

Also in Australia the AFL in addition to salary cap similar to the NRL has a player draft system like NBA which is technically in breach of our trade laws but is agreed to by the players association.

Uneven competition dominated by a few with the most money isn't good for business in the long run.

In the Corporate world an analogy are America's anti trust laws. Microsoft and others have been threatened with being broken up due to market dominance which is bad for competition overall.

I could be wrong, but I am 99% certain that the Chaves rumor to Ineos is unsubstantiated.
