Universal and Direct TV

First I apologize for NOT reading all the posts before this.

Wife and I tried to sign up for the Universal / Direct TV Giro package ($20). Not successful. So I said call Direct TV, there's an 800#. She called. Talking Giro to a Direct TV rep is not easy. ANYWAY The good news.

Direct rep said they have a Universal special promo on now. You can get up to three (3) months of Universal Sports for $8 per month, AND you can cencel whenever you you want. So we signed up, and voila! Instant Giro coverage for the month of May for less than $8. (Plus there's the added bonus of all the other stuff, like Beach Volley Ball. Who the heck thought up those "uniforms?!)

We just watched the replay coverage of Track Championships in Melbourne too.

Happy so far.

Glad you were able to get it on your TV. Their web coverage of the Giro on the other hand, is not working for me. I paid $30 for the "spring cycling package" that was supposed to include the Giro. Now, with the prologue streaming live, I can only see a 1:30 long "preview" and it wants me to pay $20 to watch the Giro. I ALREADY PAID FOR THIS!

I'm certainly going to be demanding a refund repeatedly as mentioned above if they don't fix this by, say, Monday.

This is nonsense. I too bought the Spring Package and now it won't let me watch the Giro. Keeps telling me I need to purchase the Giro. With this and nothing On-Demand, it is a complete and total rip-off. And last season it ran great and performed as promised. This year... pure junk.

Yeah same thing here. They sent me a new login a week ago and it seemed to work, but now when the Giro starts it doesnt let me watch it and says I need to pay. At this point its basically theft saying they will give us the coverage, taking our money, and then not giving it to us.

I just sent this pm via email to KEEP US
who is the representative that posted here as a new member on the forum to drum up our business and sympathy.

"From angry subscribers here on the forum:

We are just a few of many that paid our money for the "Spring Cycling Package".

Now you have taken away our rights to watch the Milano-SanRemo that we have paid for and other classics as well as not giving us what you promised with the GIRO!
The race is here and your new website---which is awful---is denying our access to watch the race that we have paid for!

Do we have to threaten you with a lawsuit or will you refund our money?
At the very least you need to provide us with what you promised. What you have done to your subscribers is quite fraudulent.

How are you going to resolve this problem?

Hopefully, this will be taken care of immediately.
Signed,
Your very irritated customers."

Mine seems to be working but check out these comments...

http://universalsports.com/2012/05/01/where-is-my-library/

and I am still steamed that 1/2 of the spring content I paid for is now not available.
Inconvenience is not the word I was thinking of

Well I added some nasty comments also...but don't want them messing with my account until AFTER the Giro, which is working for me :) Then I will harrass them to hell and back....

Acording to my local paper and the TV guide my local NBC affiliate (Denver, CO) is showing the GIRO at noon today (Sunday).:)

No live coverage for Dauphine and Switzerland on TV, but at least it will be a daily broadcast in the afternoon for US fans.

Indeed, I will have to avoid all cycling sites so I can watch it without knowing what happened.

Meanwhile I am now hammering Universal Sports for a 50% refund on their package...I will happily pay for the Giro :)

The best thing to do is to drop your cable TV or sat TV in the good old super power USA and get a very good internet connection. Then just watch it online, hopefully the loss in revenue the cable/sat companies get will to stop them from continuing down the same path of trying to jam the same channel 10 times or forcing channels we never watch on the viewers. If they dare call you, repeatedly ask for Eurosport & RAI or you won't get it, if they do have those channels tell them you'll get the Super Duper package with all the fixings and extras and have a beer ready for the tech coming to hook it up. Don't worry they will never will offer it, but dangling that carrot of signing up for everything makes them drool (the sales people) and that is the carrot they need to someday offer us some decent programming.

Above is the best advice. I get all the cycling I can watch via the pirated feeds and cyclingtorrents.

And you can't put a price on the satisfaction of not giving cable or sat companies a single penny.

It goes from Bad to Worse...tried to get a refund from Universal Sports for everything prior to the Giro. Now I have NOTHING and no refund

S*cks to live in a country where they are my only choice :(

Hopefully there are some other benefits to living in the Home of the Brave and the Land of the Free.

Tour of course will be on the NBC Sports outlet. Not sure if it is better to have the commentators in a booth in New Jersey (or wherever) commentating on what they see on TV like for the Dauphine / Swiss Tour, or sitting right there in France on camera with ill-fitting badly matched outfits, commentating on what they see on TV. Anyhoooo I always TiVO / DVR it, blast through the commercials and talking head nonsense. Surely no one can complain about the wonderful HD picture quality. OO La La.
