Twitter Condolences?

Did I really see a page of Twitter condolences transcribed into actual text on here? That's all I saw on Velonews too.
Only Tchmil bothered to write more than 140 characters.
If you can't sit and write (tweet) more than 140 characters, using a medium that takes maybe more than 12 seconds to compose - about someone who died...maybe you should stick to sending some flowers.

I'm not Miss Manners, but maybe it's not so appropriate to tweet a condolence.
At least Cyclingnews removed the stupid @ before the names.
I have no doubt that Johan "The Hog" Bruyneel will use this tragedy to lobby for race radios.

Stop crying about stupid stuff like that. As a matter of fact, Johan Bruyneel wrote a blog about Wouter Weylandt, so get your facts straight before you go insulting people.

Wow a whole blog? Johan "The Hog" Bruyneel must really want to make sure everyone knows how dangerous pro cycling is.
To give sympathy and recognition to a tragedy does not involve PUBLICITY and broadcasting it to all his "followers".
It's not appropriate to TWEET condolences.

After such a tragidy its not easy to find worth. Often short statements are much more powerful in situations like this, and often ppl are too emotional to be able to write more.

Think about it. Condolences go to close friends and family members, not to the general public. Maybe in the press if you were a close friend or teammate. For the whole peloton to tweet about his death is really gross.

Perhaps you need to reflect on the meaning(s) of the word 'peloton'. It's not just the main bunch on the road, it's a group of people who spend most of their working lives together. They've lost a colleague, why shouldn't they comment in whatever way seems most fit to them?

If anything is sickening it's your unpleasant sneering. It's not appropriate.

An 'official' internet condolence site?
Does everyone who wants to express their feelings have to go to his actual funeral?

I think it´s a great thing that a sincere message can get across so fast.

And please don´t drag a tragic death into a problem you personally have with Bruyneel. That´s about as sick as what you´re accusing him of.

For the rest I agree with Pistolero, especially the GTFO part.

You really think condolences should be considered media? His friends, manager,a few of his teammates could release actual statements to the ACTUAL media talking about their grief. For the whole peloton to tweet is over the top. It's A sub-140 word tweet is not the appropriate way to express grief.
This is taking social networking too far.
Maybe I'm wrong here, I'm an old guy at 37 and think my parents taught me how to properly offer my condolences - at a funeral, to the persons family.
Not to my followers on twitter.

and if they don´t tweet they would be called ...... ?

People look at these things in different ways there is no wrong or right answer.

Due TV, multi media etc people feel closer to their idols and the like - they expect them to comment it is just the way it is.

Not point losing sleep over it - it happens in all sections of the world where people are in the spot light.

Just look at local disasters - Do I care what Charlie Sheen thinks about this natural disaster - no by people do and expect a tweet.

I choose to ignore it - but it is the way of the future ..........

+1. New to the forum and your first 3 posts of this nature. Seriously, take your thoughts and comments elsewhere. Why shouldn't the cycling community and the general public at large not offer their condolences in such way?

May i suggest that this thread gets closed down.
