U23 fantasy contest

Inspired by a topic on another forum, I thought it would be fun to initiate a contest where everyone involved should pick a team of fifteen U23 riders - the ones YOU think will perform the best in 2010. Seing as there's a lot of different nationalities in here, I guess the picking will be diverse, and hopefully there's some talent spotters out there willing to play:

The rules are simple:
1) Pick five riders born in 1988
2) Pick five riders born in 1989
3) Pick five riders born in 1990+
4) Based on the rider's individual scores on CQ ranking, the team with the highest point total after Japan Cup will be declared the winner.
5) PM me your fifteen riders before January 14th in the CQ ranking format - example: BOASSON HAGEN Edvald (I know he's from '87) - One rider in each line. After this date I'll make all teams public.

So far I've just received two entries, and to be honest I expected a bit more, if the contest should be just a little bit challenging. If the interest isn't there, so be it, but it's still worth a shot.

Yep, you got that right

I know the '87 generation will turn 23 during this season, but according to the start list from this years (well, actually last years - 2009) U23 world championship noone from the 86' generation started the race. That means the '88 generation will be the youngest ones starting in Geelong later this season - 'thus the cut

Still looking for more participants, allthough there's been three more entries the last 24 hours.

So far we're not enough participants to make this a competition.

And to taiwan: There's actually more than enough hyped youngsters in the '88-'89 generations to make the picking of riders interesting. The main deal is gonna be picking the riders who'll contribute on their new team (a lot of youngsters have signed PT team contracts) this season, not the future stars in longer time frame. Some youngsters will definitely get a chance to prove their worth already this season, while others will be hidden gems. F.x. one of my riders (I made my selection before writing the topic), who already showed promised, but did it ín a race that didn't imply getting CQ points...

I'm missing some of the major contributors in the CN forums, where are they? In the clinic?

Sorry, when I was picking a team for the pcmdaily game, I started to look at the U23 riders, too. I thought I might be able to play your game too, but would have struggled to find enough riders, and the choices wouldn't have come from any insight at all. I do know a little more about the young guys signed by pro and continental teams now, though.

That was more variation than I expected almost. Only two names that were on all lists, Sicard and Guldhammer. Though a few more that were on all but one or two.

Agree. I'll try to keep an eye on the people on these lists the coming season. And someone remind me to check again in five years time! At least one of these picks is going to be a superstar..

Peter Sagan who most people put on their list has certainly made his presence know so far this season. He's been active in alot of races eventhough the results don't always show it. I wonder what ypes of races he will win in his prime years.

I was told there is also a 18yo Kiwi who almost beat McCaulley in the NZ tt champs.

How about Canuck champ Boivin. Won in Cuba already this year.

but his palmares on http://www.cyclingwebsite.net were nothing too special. Ofcourse, it was spread like some of the Aus/NZ riders who do track/road, with Sagan doing mtb,cross and rr.

Has anybody read much Michael Lewis? Sagan born Jan. Same as Cameron Meyer.

Boasson winning 3 stages at l'Avenir as a 19yo was epic. Sagan was not quite as impressive.

Just bringing back this thread from early 2010 - all the teams with Sagan obviously would have had the upper hand in the final ranking.

Without having checked all riders I think Ingsve or Jakob747 would have been the winner of this competition with riders ranked 1st (Sagan), 2nd (Van Garderen) and 6th/9th (Appollonio/Felline) in the U23 ranking on his team. Laurentiu might be joining the fight for victory with Sagan, TjVG and 12th (Geniez), 13th (Pinot) and 14th (Phinney) on his team.

Be interested in doing this if you're trying to do a 10/11 edition. Might be worth lowering the number of guesses (or limit the younger and harder ones. eg: 5 from '89, 4 from '90 and 3 '91+). Also giving a link of two to sites that have details of younger riders might increase the interest.
