Incoming Bufalo Segaert hypetrain?
Jokes aside, Segart has a huge engine and was already in the breakaway of that final L' avenir mountain stage that Milesi won, before winning the Piccolo Giro di Lombardia later.
Didn't expect German Gomez to be up there and Pinzon to be so bad, the opposite of what I expected.

Martinelli is legit, a shame that Pellizzari was sick and had to drop out of the race and that De Cassan isn't racing this one.
Ticket bought. Really impressive climbing performances for someone weighing that much. Morgado and Busatto with surprisingly bad results for me. Martinelli caught my eye in the February Spanish races, but doesn't seem to have done too much in stage races since? Hopefully he can maintain this level.

Martinelli beat Messner, De Cassan and his teammate Pellizzari in the final short MTT in the Carpathian Couriers Race last year, where he did just over 7W/KG for a bit over 8min. At this stage they probably should send him to slightly bigger stage races. His recovery is still a bit of an unknown to me, no idea how good it is.

Mustache Morgado is here as a domestique, He said it before the race, mostly because he stopped for a month due to injury.

Sad day for the espoir side of the sport. Think DQs are pretty mild for this kind of industrial-scale cheating tbh. Yes, a lot of the people who got caught are relative minnows who aren't good enough for this race and are only there because they're Italian, but there's also a couple of bigger names from bigger teams who don't even have that excuse.

Kinda funny that Nibali's u23 team is involved in this kind of incident.

But why and how? The stage was really easy and short until the Stelvio. I'm also pretty sure that the organizers might have been not that severe about the time limit if it was a problem for so many riders?

Old fashioned motor doping - even with "help" they all came in over 24 minutes down. It used to be normal for the organizers to turn a blind eye to it (unless it was a GC guy like Nibali) but these days of social media and everyman and his dog with a camera on his phone means it becomes embarrassing for the organizers not to do something.
Should they just have been fined or penalized some other way? Maybe.

Disgusting.
I hope none of them ever makes it to the pro ranks.

Calm down dude. You're acting like they hurt someone doing this. Probably some riders started it, seemed to get away with it (from what I hear some race organizers weren't doing anything about it at first), so others joined in. Don't get why everyone is freaking out.

Definitely nothing to do with the time limit for most, just seeing others doing it and joining in or just wanting to have an easy race and not caring. This happens a lot in lower rank races. Most of the time people don't care at all. The only reason they were DQ'ed is because some video's were popping up.

The boss of the Italian cycling federation is not happy:

What we have seen are images that hurt a lot. It is right to apply the rules, and I am especially sorry for the behavior of the sports directors in the team car, because they must be the first to teach young people how to respect the rules. I had asked RCS Sport to invite at least half of Italian teams (17 out of 35, ed): at this point, given the behavior of our formations and our riders, I no longer feel comfortable recommending them to be invited in the future. I leave the managers of RCS Sport free to invite the teams at their discretion.

They are hurting the integrity of the sport. For me that is important.

So do a lot of other riders but then nobody seems to care. Atleast 20% (probably even more) WT cyclists have done this stuff in their career atleast once. This happens all the time, no one actually cares till there's some viral videos online. These riders did something they shouldn't have done, but also something that just happens a lot and you want their careers to be ruined. Like you have never done anything remotely wrong in your life.

You could say the same about most clinic-related issues. It isn't a huge crime in the grand scheme of things, but it's cheating. And maybe holding on to a car for a large part of a climb is actually worse than a lot of doping offenses.
